I want to know, my friend at the local store said the Monkey was Digitech's version of the Boss SD-1, true? IIRC i read somewhere on the net that the new Digitech D seies pedals were modeled after old DOD pedals, which pedal is the Monkey made after if that's the case?

Does anyone know if the Monkey schematic looks like any other OD pedal?

I find the Bad Monkey is more like a Tube Screamer than anything else to my ears.

I don't know what it would of been modeled after from the DOD line though.

You might get in trouble for posting this question in the guitar forum instead of the amplifier forum. All effects pedal questions are supposed to be put there. You can click on the Thread tools just above your first post and on the right will allow you to move this to the amplifier forum.

I don't care where it goes, but some guys are very sensitive about using the correct forum.

Done! I don't want to get

Although it does sound like a Tube Screamer, having the high and low tone knobs makes it much more versatile.

I think it's like a tubescreamer with less nasal sounding mids. it has very smooth, beautiful highs that blend beautifully with the midrange, and nice tight punchy lows. I like it a lot for tightening up a looser amp, and for really creamy zz top type overdrive. It's hilarious actually. I've spent thousands of dollars on the rig i currently use, but the basis of my tone is the bad monkey I got for $20. What a KILLER deal this pedal is.

As others have said, it's probably a closer match to a TS.

That's great. Cool report. Thanks 2headed.

I would imagine it works better with some amps than others. It seems to work well with the hotrodded '59 fender bassman circuit in my amp, which on its own has a very warm, woody, rich sound. Across different pickups and guitars, it does seem to color the tone a fair bit, but in a way that I like. Major disadvantage is that it's not true bypass, so you loose a tiny bit of sparkle when the effect is in your chain.

Is this the DOD pedal the Monkey is made after?
