Well I'm getting enough money to get me a new guitar the next months... I was thinking about a Fender Deluxe Ash Strat...
Anyone know about the (especially tonal) qualities of these?
thanks

My friend has one, it didn't seem as solid as an American Strat... but it WAS good nonetheless, it had a bit of a bassier tone with the ash compared to the alder in americans, and the APSs were nice... I've heard here in the forums that the Jimmie Vaughan strat is absolutely awesome, maybe you should try both out and see which you prefer?

Hmm I know how Alders sound, and I think Ash may have a bit more edge if you know what I mean... yes... just keep telling me

bump

ash tends to have a brighter top and more focused bottom compared to alder but there is quite a bit of variation

And how much is it? I mean it seems like if you order an alder strat, you don't really know what you're buying cause they are sooo different to each other...

i dont order guitars, i keep playing them till i find one i love then jump on it. the acoustic sound is more important than the plugged in sound. the pups are probably gonna be changed anyway but if it isnt a lively guitar, there isnt much you can do about it

Yeah you're right, but it seems like no guitar dealer has an ash strat in the color I want liing around so I can play it... They would have to order one

Well, if it looks like this:I'd go for it.

Ash and alder are both great for Strat. Alder is a bit more balanced, but Ash is a true killer for blues.M.

all ive noticed in the few ive played is that they are brighter. they still sound good, though.

Not that I don't like alder, but I prefer ash every time. It's not a middy as alder is. It's more bell-like to my ears than alder is. Get some A2 pups in it to smooth out the highs a bit and you have a stunningly beautiful sounding guitar in most cases. I've played two strats that totally knocked my socks off and both were ash strats with A2 pickups. One is my current Hamer Daytona and the other was a Mary Kay repro strat that was introduced back when I was a very poor college student who couldn't afford a 1,299 guitar. The Daytona sounds just as good if not better and cost less than half as much (though I did have to have it re-fretted by a pro).

And can I just suppose I'll get a good one when ordering a Fender Deluxe Ash Strat?
