hello. i am here today to ask about quot;fret sizesquot;. what fret size would be closest to the modern fender frets? 6230 seems to be the vintage fender, but how much smaller would that be compared to modern? im talking about a standard MIM strat.
and also, what would be the closest back contour to this?
i think the closest to what i want might be 0148 on the stew- mac site, medium/ meduim. what would be the closest on the usa custom site?
All the MIM strats i've seen have had pretty puny frets...most of the americans i've seen have had med/jumbos. A size or two smaller than those would probably be about right.
as for neck contour of a MIM strat...that seems to vary a bit. They tend to go from medium to medium-thick. The warmoth SRV contour is likely like the thickest of the MIM necks...though with a symettric profile. Dunno much beyond that.
I am not certain what is in a Mexican Strat but I have refretted all my Strats with 6105 fretwire. This is just a touch wider than the quot;vintagequot; Fender wire but has a lot more height to it so bending is a lot easier and it still feels like a Strat (IMO) Fretwire choices are like guitar strings what works for you may not work for someone else.

do you know what they use on their mim?
beyumphooatap
I have a mim strat, I'm pretty sure the fret size is 6230.

The ones I have seen have vintage like wire frets on them! Way too small for my tastes and once they are worn, you might as well refret unless, you want it leveled and recrowned to be next to nothing!
