Does anyone know what purpose the metal covers serve? My DRRI was making some static noise with nothing plugged in, I took the covers off to test/tap the tubes. When I plugged the amp back in, with no covers, there was no static.
Thanks for any info.
I believe they are there to block R.F. interference like shielding in a guitar cavity........Joe

If that's the case, why don't all the tubes have metal covers?

R.F. is Radio frequency. I don't think power tubes can be covered due to excess heat...Joe
George....I PMd you....The covers are there to help with shock and vibration and the spring pressure helps support the tube...The covers also probably help with noise suppression also..

on a constructive note if the metal was supposed to be noise suppression also and sheilding how come it gave off noise wouldnt that be counter productive especially for its original purpose
