I've got the 1 X 12 combo, and am a big fan of it. Has anyone played the half-stack or 2X12 version of this amp?

nobut...reviews please!

Well I get good cleans and excellent crunch with with gain boost on...

It's got a knob on the back that goes from class A (low power) to Class A/B (Full) and I really can't tell much different when I turn it... it's turned most of the way towards A/B right now.

It's got better tone than my peavey XXL had, and that's always a good thing.

I'm glad I returned to a tube amp, and I know this isn't much of a review, if you have any questions I can answer 'em...

It has a knob for changing class??? I thought it would be a switch?

what about gain levels? does have a buzzy gain or what characteristics does it have?

Can it do the metallica and van halen tone? Seriously, how heavy/crunchy can it get, how smooth are the leads, and how clean are the cleans?

MJ

The cleans are cleaner than my XXL was... actually very clean, I'm happy about that. The gain is way better than I expected it to be the first time I looked at this amp. I can go from low gain to very crunchy and high gain with the gain boost on. Definetly a better metal sound than my XXL.
I would compare the gain, when cranked to a XXX but not quite... ha ha
I dunno.. i think I'm too tired to give good reviews right now, but that's a little bit better of an idea.

Yes, it's a variable knob, I think it more like simulates the caracteristics of the different classes, doesn't necisarily change it.. but I dunno for sure.

I checked it out along with my other guitarist and while it sounded good, it didn't quite have the quot;sagquot; that he was looking for. It sounded more solid state, the notes came out right away and can be a bit quot;stiffquot; at times, but the overall cleans and overdrive sounded great for the money.

If you're looking at a cheaper, inexpensive two channel amp definitely try to play a Crate V32 Palomino as well. There was a depth and response that I only find in much more expensive amps, so that's where my money ended up going. I'm not here to sell anything to anyone, but if you're looking around that price range and want to check out what's the best around for the cash, it'd definitely be worthwhile to test both the Crate and the Peavey. I'm convinced the two are pretty hard to beat for the cash (dare I say impossible?), I just prefer the feel and voicing of the Crate.

Ok, I was just reading up on it. It is just a class A simulation dealie. 'Cause I know with Mesas you can switch between class A and B biased sets of tubes. I thought it was interesting that you could blend the two!

Sounds to be quite a decent amp, and Peavey list it as cheaper than the XXL solid state!

Yeah it is definetly inexpensive.

The_Chris, it doesn't sound like a solid-state amp... it might have more solid state tendencies than a JCM 2000, but definetly sounds better than the XXL did.

I compared it to a Crate V50 i think it was... about the same set-up.. 50 watts, 2 power tubes, 1 12quot; speaker... but the crate had EL34's I think... and I liked the sound of the peavey a bit more.

The Valve King is definitely impressive, it's indeed a much better amp than the XXL

Not much of an EL-34 guy myself (probably why I chose the V32)

How much did you get it for and where?

I think I kinda mentioned that in my other thread. I traded my used XXL for it basicly, but there was other trades going on at the same time.. I ened up with a new guitar and pickups too...
Got it from Music Makers on E. Main St. in downtown Galesburg, IL.

I don't think of myself as a peavey amp guy.... but they've got some good stuff, and I definetly respect that!

Rock On ~!~
