It was an experiment, and I said I'd give it a month or so, and I think it's been closer to two. I don't like the 85 in the bridge. Others might, but it's not for me.

It's a great bridge pup with a 60 in the neck as you can switch back and forth without a jump in your tone.
Great pinch harmonics

I had to bump my gain up higher than I did with the 81.
Too smooth/not aggressive enough.
Not enough punch/purcussiveness.
I don't like the distribution of mids...it seems to peak at a spot I don't find appealling, and it was killing the quot;depthquot; of my mutes....they somehow seemed quot;flatquot; sounding with this pickup.
I don't like the treble:bass ratio....not enough bite, too much bottom end.Anyway, the 85 is out and the 81 is in. If I want a bassy bridge pickup....well, that's why I have a guitar loaded with a Super Distortion....I could get way better mutes out of it than I ever could with the 85.
LOL, Phoenix will undergo very similar modding as soon as the dust settles, maybe trade the SAs fos Ss as well...
I agree with you screamingdaisy. I switch back my 81 in the bridge after a while like you as it was to bassy nad messing up my palm mutes. I got to convinced from the ultimatemetal.com/forum board as everyone is praising it and Jame Murphy the death metal legendary guitarists also uses it so i wa slike why not but maybe on my gear it was too. bassy but it was good to a point but not for my style which was Thrash. Maybe for downtuned Metal ..
Screaming Daisy you hit it right on the head! Im one of the few that like the 85 in the bridge though I'll have to say that I don't Dislike the 81 in the bridge. P.H does scream from th 85 though rather easily(one reason why I like it). The 85 wins only by a hair. Now if only they could mix the percussiveness of the 81 with the mids and harmonics im all over it.
i love the smooth sounds of the 85 but my amp settings lean towards treble. I still love the 81 though.
