This is sort of like part II to my quot;Floyd Rose vs. Ibanez Edge Tremoloquot; thread.
Okay, so I picked up the Ibanez RG320FM in Transparent Lavender (which looks like a blackish color with gray mixed in) and I really like it. The guy at the shop was nice enough to slap some new strings on it and tune 'er up for me and I've pretty much figured out that you need to twist the little screws at the bottom to get the strings in tune/finely tuned.
However, every time I tune one string the other ones go out of tune. Why is this? How am I supposed to get spot on tuning if this happens? The guitar quot;almost in tunequot; but since I'm not sure how to properly tune the Edge (like a floyd/frl) it's not a good a play as it good be. Somebody care to teach how to tune a floyd rose?
Also, has anybody played either the Dimarzio Air Zone or the Air Norton? Opinions?
(I know that's more of a pickup lounge question but why not kill two birds with one stone? )
Thanks again!
The bridge is floating. When you alter pitch on one naturally it will affect the other. You just keep fine tuning it until they are all on the money. Locking trems are a pain in the ass but glad you dig the new axe.
In a nutshell, you sometimes need to tune all the strings if one is a bit off..
Let's say your D string is a bit low. You use screw at the bridge to tune it. But it needs to be done little by little. and requires checking the tuning on the other strings.
Takes time and patience. But once it's in tune, and the angle is correct, it stays in tune pretty well.
Yeah, I figured that's what had to be done. I just thought maybe there was some little quot;trickquot; that would make it easier. Wishful thinking?
Speaking of Floating Tremolo systems does anybody have any cool whammy bar techniques I can punish my new baby with?
There is actualy a quot;trickquot;. Block the trem with a wedge of some sort..

Blocking the trem makes it unusable though.
I've got an edge pro also. I don't have trouble with fine tuning, just with tuning it to a specific pitch. I will post an Ibanez site that has a tone of info on edge pro stuff (can't right now as I'm not at my home computer). As far as tricks my favorite is the Dimebag harmonic scream. Forewarning, the first few times you do this your guitar will go out of tune. Once you get the technique down it won't. Depress the bar toward the neck till the strings get loose. With your fret hand position your index finger as if you were going to play a harmonic. Pick the string and then immediately pull the bar away from the body of the guitar. This is what Dime did for the high screams at the end of Cemetary Gates!

Yeah, I wasn't being very clear...
I meant blocking the trem for the time of tuning. Then when you take it off, you'll have less drop/rise angle to correct. My bad.
