How does the Pearly Gates neck pickup sound when playing clean? I'm looking to replace the '59 I currently have. I'm looking for something very full and open sounding with decent clarity, but not to the point of being glassy, like the '59. Medium output would probably be best. Does the Pearly Gates fit this decription?
From what I have heard, yes (EDIT meaning actually hearing the pups, not quot;hearsayquot;). The PG does have a pretty good upper treble spike...the stereotypical quot;sizzlequot; people mention. They are a bit brighter/harsher in the top end than a 59 to my ears.
Not trying to blatantly spam (but I think thats what it's gonna sound like ) , but I have a brand new in box zebra PGn I'll be putting in the quot;salequot; section of my sig.

Sent you a PM
Love the PG neck. What's really cool about it when you turn down the volume a touch it cleans up nicely. But it doesn't muddy up and still cuts. I wouldn't call it harsh at all. I think I prefer it to a 59 for anything rockin' It just has alittle quot;Morequot; but can get back to a clearer 59 tone with a touch of volume or maybe tone tone control. I'd get it over a 59' everytime. I just think it's more flexible.
And don't get me started on how well it blends with a custom custom bridge!!!
How does the PG neck sound when heavily distorted. I wanted to check one out in my Schecter. I have a DD set in their now, DD bridge owns, the neck is very very nice also, just wanted to change it up a lil. What do you think?
You know - I'm a believer in the Monster amp/Mellow pup, Mellow amp/Monster pup school. I agree with those who say get a clear pup and let the Hot Rod/Mod/Souped up/Distorto/quadruple recto channel on the amp do the work. My Peavey Stdio Pro with the gain boost on and mid scoop kicked in is pretty good. In that mode I'll back off the bass a notch or two on the amp, but no problems here. I'd do the bass adjust with any paul and most pups in that mode!
