Anyone here use either the tonebone hot british or classic ????
or are there other od/dist that do the same for less....
the reason I am interested is because both eric johnson and alan holdsworth use em....

I got a Hot British, and love it! It is great for that quot;over the topquot; hard overdrive/distortion. Need to spend some time setting it up though.

I've tried the Classic as well, and it's more versatile. Easier to get classic rock tones, and it gets pretty distorted when you turn it up. I'm getting one of these as well when I can afford it.

I strongly recommend them. Try them out.

bumpage

I use a tonebone classic, and really like it. I did swap out the stock JJ 12AX7 for a NOS GE 12AX7, which really improved the tone. Here're a couple of short clips of the tonebone going into a THD Univalve:

I ordered the hot british from MF, and took advantage of their 45 day return policy. Its not worth the price in my opinion. I already have a tube amp and to be honest it functioned more like an EQ than a distortion pedal. The pedal is very transparent though.. your amp will still sound like your amp. The distortion isnt over the top in my opinion either. I thought it lacked what some will call full distortion. You can get a variety of tone shapes by using the knobs and the little switches though, but once again it reminds me of an EQ. If you are that interested, just order it from MF and return it within 45 days.

I've owned both, and while they're both excellent pedals, IMO they weren't really worth it. Getting a modded boss pedals is a bit cheaper, sounds pretty similar, and easier to deal with too. Though they're not as tweakable.

****, I thought it said trombones, then i was gonna be all over this thread.

I have both the Hot British and the Classic, and in my mind, theyre worth it. Few pedals get that close to sounding like their tube amp counterparts. I have a JCM 800 and can say that the Hot British gets really damn close. If you like having a lot of options with your tone, get em. Also, one thing to note, theyre not good overdrives, more just straight distortions.

A Tonebone OCD would be cheaper and better . It's like a semi-cranked JCM800 with the knobs set to the sweet spot.
