I got a $50 gift certificate, i was figuring i'd buy a pickup. I wanna get a new neck pickup for my squier strat (s-s-h), and i already have a duckbucker (bridge model, for increased ouptut), in the middle. I really wanna get something like a classic jimi tone like little wing, or something like SRVs cleaner variations like lenny or riviera paradise... however, i tend to dislike the sound of the duckbucker... it doesn't seem like it has any lows. I've tried messing around with its placement, but it never seems to help all that much. Now, given all that, does anyone have any suggestions at all?? Any help is greatly appreciated, as i'm not too knowledgable about single coils.
the ssl1 vintage staggered is a great choice for that

bright vintage single coil tone. great for those stratty clean tones you are looking for

okay, cool, thanks for the reccomendation. I know there are several hum cancelling solutions that are quot;vintagequot;... would any of these truly work as well as the ssl1 vintage staggered though?? Cuz it would be nice to have my guitar hum free, but i can live with hum if it means better tone.

some stacks sound nice. Of the ones I've tried, the Dimarzio Virtual Vintage '54 sounds the most like a real, traditional single coil.

They're still no match for my APS-2's, though.

Hey, jmv! It's great to see ya, buddy!

For me, I dig the tone of a classic stack in the neck. It's what I have in my Daytona. Vintage tone without the hum.

I've yet to hear a stack that really sounds like an real single coil...spend some time shielding your electronics cavity and making sure the grounds are good and go with something an SSL or Surfer or something...
