hi, i was looking at the OLP MM1 with the floyd rose becuase i was looking for an eddie van halen-ish guitar. anyone have any info on the neck like how it would compare to a squier strat or jackson rr3[my other guitars] ect. thanks
anyone? there on musicians friend just type in olp mm1
It was a while ago, but I played the regular MM1 without the Floyd-Rose. It was a decent guitar, but I'm glad I payed a little more and bought a Dean Evo. I am also unsure of the quality of the floyd rose. Just try before you buy.
Just some pointers.
I was going to get one of these until... I found out the top is actually a picture, thats not real maple, its just a pice of paper with a picture of a quilt top on it.
The floyd's springs make contact with the body and squeek badly. Over all the whole guitar is made very poorly, its good for a beginer, tho pricey. If you already have a squier, this wont be much of a step up. look on ebay for a real peavey wolfgang!
You can find em all the time for not much more than a MM-1F.
Right...it's a fake top. I agree with Mephis, look for a real Wolfgang.
Them photo tops are actually pretty cool once you think about it. Say you love the look of a maple top, but hate the brightness it adds, you just the photoflame. And those 80's Squire quot;Fotoflamequot; necks are going for some cash now days.

C'mon bro. Lay off. I can tell you this, give me a first act guitar, and I'm gonna make it one of the best damn playing guitars you've ever seen. It aint the guitar or the brand, it's what you put into it.

IMO, fotoflame looks like dog doo. I owned a fotoflame Dillion and I hated it every time I looked at it.
As for the brightness argument, how 'bout just finding a darker-sounding example of a real maple-topped guitar or the more common approach these days: veneer? Let's face it, fotoflame is all about being ultra-cheap.
You guys can shove it! hehe said nice, i love my olp however it is a standart trem guitar, the floyd one's SUCK BAD. Even mine took a little work but apon getting one it will need new tuners and pickups.Whats the tape for?
I was careless and layed it down right on the jack with that cord in, stripped the screws right out, duct tape saves the day again.
I think the Floyd model might have a real maple top.
HUH? a photo flamed maple, thats a new one... i have a flamed maple guitar how can i tell if it isnt a photo?
JJ
got another querstion. between these 2 which one is probably better. the olp mm1 with the floyd or an epiphone les paul gothic with the floyd? i mostly play van halen-ish and slash like
Try looking into some of the Jacksons and Ibanez guitars in this range. They both make some decent guitars in this price range.
i already have a jackson, and a squier, its a RR3 , its ok just not 100% what im looking for .
Here is something interesting that Ed Roman is doing to these guitars:

Oh, ok. I thought you just wanted a guitar with a Floyd, but I see that the RR3 has one. Well if you like Slash, have you though of an Epiphone LP standard or a Dean Evo?

You can tell whether it's photo-flamed by looking into most parts of the body cavity and examining the thickness of the top and the general look of it. For the record the OLP's sound about as good as you can expect any other peice of chipboard guitar to sound like.
Sure...it's wood. But it's not a quality wood that will probably last terribly long or retain tonal qualities. The addition of the excess of glue that's necessary to keep the chunks of wood in place has to do something to the sound.
