Hi guys,
Any combos can get Steve Lukather and Robben Ford's tone? My guitar has a maple neck bolts on a alder body, rosewood fretboard. It sounds kinda trebly and thin, especially solo with my Mesa amps. I am very into the creamy, velvet and round distortion. Thanks!!!!
Regards
thanks~ any suggestion?
Robben used a 59N and a JB for years. That's what you'll hear on most of his recordings like Talk To Your Daughter. In the last few years he's been experimenting with other Duncans.
It'd be hard to go wrong with a Jazz neck and JB Bridge...that is Seymour's favorite combo and it's a great pickup set in a Les Paul!
Steve uses EMGs.

I'm with Lew, definitely check out the Jazz/JB. Also I seem to remember reading that the Ford fender has a set of 59s, something else to consider.

I don't know....if the guitar is already kind of trebly, maybe something like the CC and a PG or APH in the neck. That will help thicken up the tone. Both of those pups are smooth and sweet. That's my $.02.
You guys rock! I am think about the Jazz and JB combo. If I put a mid single coil between the Jazz and the JB, which one will be cool? Thanks!
Regards!

Regards! If you will be splitting the Jazz and JB, I would go with the SSL-1. You can wire the combo to be humcancelling in the 2 amp; 4 positions. If you don't plan oon splitting, either the Vintage Rails or the Classic Stack would be good.
