which do you think would be better to get these tones?

I dont know much about the VHT stuff, but i do know that the THD amps can get some fantastic rock sounds of all sorts, and would definitely be great for van halen esque tones along with everything else because you can just change valves around! But if you want to use the amp live and are wanting a decent clean tone with a live amount of headroom, id suggest the THD Bi Valve because its 30 watts rather than 15, because with the 15 watt univalve you might find yourself running out of clean headroom when you try and get the volume up for a live gig. Although if everything is mic'd really well it might not be such a problem
