I don't know why but I just love the simplicity of these guitars. I like older models with the wraparound bridge better though. It's probably the simplest guitar next to the Tele there is. Both single-cut. Only diff electronically is one pickup and a switch.

Does anyone know of anyone who makes pre-cut bodies of these? Don't say Warmoth because their flat-top LP bodies are thicker than the Melody Maker was so that won't work.

I have a 65 Epiphone Olympic. Pretty much in the same neigborhood as the Melody Maker- but much more stylish!

Is the Olympic a double cut? I never got in to the old Epiphones too much.

Just grab one of THESE, Erik

Even the dudes over on the Les Paul Forum have given it good reviews. For the $ , seems tough to beat.

That's pretty much what a friend of mine in CA got from the owner of the store we worked at, only his was/ is, if he still has it, a Melody Maker. It's brown/yellow burst, wraparound bridge, single pickup, narrow headstock, not wide like the LP Junior. I really like those.

I've played the new LP Junior's and they are really nice. Man, my wife would KILL ME if I mentioned another guitar I want due to GAS. It's bad enough I want a Tele, and that's going to be a Warmoth project.

If I ever come across an older Melody Maker though, single-cut, I'll have to convince her somehow to let me snag it, if the price is right.

Neither am I, but I've always loved this body style, this one's mine:
I guess it's supposed to be the same thickness as an SG, but pricewise it was on par with the Melody Maker. The original Olympics were rebranded MMs.That is pretty nice. I think I'll have to keep a mental note to look for one in every store I go in.

Did that lower picture show up for you?

If not, try this link.

from : localhost/you don't know that site, set aside an afternoon!

Yes, it did.

I've been to that site before but looked at the Fender stuff. I think I need to bookmark the index to that place. Lots of good info there.

By the way, the P-90 on mine is not stock. The guitar had a headstock injury (yes, it was my fault), and it wasn't much routing to install the pickup.

I think they look better with P-90's myself. I'd love to make one. I could cut the body easy enough. I'd just need to carefully cut a custom headstock using one of Warmoth's paddle headstock necks or just get the Warmoth style headstock for a little modern feel to it. I don't like their LP headstock.

Well, this actually may become another project right next to the custom Tele project that hasn't started.

Mine has the quot;batwingquot; headstock. I was actually surprised that either Chandler or Warmoth had templates for the pickguard! Mine came with the MM pickup, but it was dead. I went through a bunch of different Strat pickups until the headstock needed the repair.
