Hi there....first time poster.
Does SD offer any pickups in double creme? I have a BC Rich Bich (natural finish) with double cremes and I'd like to throw in a Jazz(n) and JB(b), but all I see is zebra, black or white. Anyone able to get these in double creme?
Dimarzio filed a copyright on double creme pickups, so now no one else can sell them. Not even Gibson or Duncan, who did it first.
If you want double creme bobbins, what you do is order them in double creme with a loosely soddered cover. That way, the copyright isn't violated, and it's an easy matter to remove the cover. If it's wax potted, like any pickup besides the seth lover, then you have to clean up the wax. Unless you order it as not wax potted... which I'm not sure you can do but you can always ask them.
I thought it was a trademark, but it's still the same meaning. They have the rights to a color. Just glad there are ways around it!

So I have to order them directly from Duncan, from the Custom shop? Have many of you done this? Sorry for all the questions, but that seems crazy that you can copyright a quot;colorquot;.

You can buy covered double cream humbuckers from Black Rose Customs. Black Rose is a regular contributor to this forum. They have great service and prices.
DiMarzio has trademarked double cream uncovered humbuckers, which means that no other maker can sell them without entering into some kind of licensing agreement with them. Removing a cover from a pickup is an after sale modification, so as long as you buy them covered the trademark isn't violated. That's my understanding anyway. I have bought several double cream Duncans this way.
Have a word with the gentlemen at Black Rose.
Yeah, Black Rose is great. I have only bought black pups from them, but I think Luke Duke did the double cream modification trick with some pups from Black Rose. I know he did it, I just can't remember where he got them. They are great about helping you out. Tell 'em what you want, and I'm sure they can come up with something.
Thanks guys....I sent an email to Black Rose....

Well, I'm going to trademark green wire, so if you want any without paying an exhorberant price, you should get it now. LOL.

Yep I ordered from Kevin, and John and Black Rose. They didn't even come soldered, they knew what I wanted to do!
It's only 15 bucks more, the price for the cover. It takes about 3-6 weeks to get them, but it's a small price to pay in my book.

Luke
Especially when you go on ebay and resell it for $200.:-D
I got a Duncan Double Cream Custom Custom from Blackrose.

Yes. Quite an unfortunate oversight.
Wouldn't it be funny if you then went to them and asked for them to fix it?
If you scour ebay, you can find deals on the original pre-trademark cream Duncan's. I've owned 2 or 3 cream Custom's. I picked up my last one for $60 from someone who didn't mention the color in the title, but I've resold them for $110. So profit can be made:-)
I desperately want a double-cream Invader with Gold polepieces, though, which is either impossible or would cost a fortune:-(
