You say you have enjoyed the PG bridge model in the neck spot. Can you describe for me? Is it like a 59, APH-1, Seth?
my guess would be that its similar to putting a lower output jb at the neck, i bet its a great lead tone.

Sorry for the delay.
I enjoyed 2 PGb's in the neck, one read slightly over 8.00K and the other like 8.15K. I used the first with a 8.35K PGb and the second with a 8.75K PG . Love both of them.
PGn's generally have a DC value that is less than 7.40K. That and the mismatched coils gives a very noticable clarity still with a2 PAF voice. That is very cool, and works great in already thick LP necks. However, in my case I wanted a thicker and more dominant neck tone still keeping the clarity and and all those a2 features.
That 8.00K PGb did not need any modifications, and sounds great in the neck position. In fact it is the best non-custom shop neck-paf clone I have. However, the 8.15K did not have enough clarity, thus I swapped its a2 with an a3.
Both of them do great ABB neck tones, and now both of them have enough clarity (without being woofy) to get excellent clean neck HB tones.
To sum up when you try a PGb in the neck you'd get a great lead tone. BUT, it might be that you'd lose some clarity and get a woofy a2 tone (without mud tho) because it would be somewhat strong. Then make sure to keep an a3 handy, because then you'd gain the clarity and still keep most of that great a2 lead tone. BTW raising the screw pieces a little more than usual may also correct the loss of clarity.
Hope this helps.

Ahhhh...thank u.
Mine's scheduled for delivery Wednesday.
I don't recommend the PG bridge. I've spent a few days listening to a PG set in my Paul, and while the neck is really a nice articulate pickup, the bridge sounded like one of the worst Duncan bridge pickups I've ever heard. If the PG B sounds good in the neck, it's a good thing, because I wouldn't ever use one in the bridge ever again!
Robert S uses the C-5/PG, which I'm sure is a great combo. I've been digging the sound of an EVH/PG for a few days as well.

I agree...I found the PGB to be too toppy in my Tokai Love Rock, but I'm really liking the 59B/Custom A5 Hybrid I have in the bridge...I want to swap out the 59N for a PGN though,as I think the PGN would be better for me..
I also found the A5 PG to be too toppy in my strat...Toppy is good when you're playing with a band and you can always tone control the highs off..
really? the pgb is one of my favorite pups, great live tone thru a cranked fender

Mine too. In fact I believe it is the best non-custom shop PAF clone I have ever come across.
Don't think it's too bright. It's PAF! I don't know what you guys are basing your evaluations on, because I trust your ears. But still regarding this issue I definitely am not with you.

It's all good Doc....it's more than likely our gear, cause I'm a Marshall guy and maybe I feel the PG is too toppy through that sought of amp tone? In other words, most of my tones are based around Marshalls..

The 59B is warmer...
BTW, for those of you that didn't like the PG at the bridge spot of a LP, you might want to try it with a 500K volume control and a 250k tone control. It made mine much friendlier.

Great advice seeing as I always go with all CTS 500k values..

You are still a close buddy of mine that's for sure!
I guess that LP of yours might be quite different than mine, rather than the amp differences since I also am using amps with which I get close to that marshall tone (with the help of pedals modded by YOU !!!). I came to believe that there might be really considerable differences when it comes to lesters especially in the bridge position. I hated the timbucker bridge in my R7 (thin, too bright, somewhat shrill). I loved/adored it in my R8. Go figure!
Matching the pickups to the particular wood in question is the whole deal. In the bridge of my 95 LP standard (which now has an a4 8.65K antiquity HB and is simply excellent) PG sounded great. Was a2, that is it was soft spongy on the bass side, round and thick mids and nice highs, but still had that extra uppermids (texas sizzle I suppose) in the uppermids register. Rolling the tone off to 5-6 gave a great tiger kinda growl! A5's in the same guitar (including a 59b) give more of a smaller wild cat tone! Anyway after going over a bunch of PAF clones I settled with an a4 antiquity, the neck being a 7.70K antiquity with the stock dun-aged magnet (which I might change to an a3 to add more clarity for the clean jazz/blues stuff I am into nowadays).
