I have a strat and want to put a Seth Lover in the bridge. Since Seths arent f-spaced/trembucker spaced, should I go through the hassle of the custom shop to get a trembucker Seth made or should I just get a snormal spaced one?

American made strats really don't need the trem spacing. The bridges are a bit narrower than the vintage style bridge. A MIM or squire probably would though.

I think a trem spaced Seth would be awesome. Wonder why this hasn't been produced...

I've always wondered about that, I guess there just isn't any demand for the Alnico 2 Pro or the Seth in trembucker spacing.

That's so hard to believe. I'd love to have a Seth in my Strat.

i was thinking about a seth in some big pointy flourescent 80's metal axe with a floyd there..

lol thinking about it, seth strat would be awesome! i guess it does for LP/Strat hybrids what the twangbanger does for tele/strat!

try a blues saraceno patb. it's a nice low output pu

The Blues is my favorite Duncan bridge pickup, although it definitely sounds different than the Seth.

Ryan

yup, but it's low output and more vibey than most

Is that the one with the parallel tiny rails, without regular polepieces?

I've always wanted to try a Seth B in a strat but never have, for this very reason.
If it sounds great, I'd probably try to get a CS one made in tremspaced, if possible.

Hey Ryan, (or meat), how would you compare a Blues to a Custom 5?

Artie

Hey Artie...They are pretty different pickups, I've tried both in the same guitar and I like the Blues a lot better. In terms of output, the C5 is a fairly high output pickup, compared to the Blues which has just a bit more output than a typical PAF style pickup. The Blues is a much thicker sounding pickup, due to the increased midrange. Think of it as a '59 with more mids, a little more output, and a tad bit less bass and treble. The overall EQ is very even, it's one of the few pickups in the Duncan lineup that doesn't have a certain frequency range that dominates the others. It's a bit warmer than most alnico 5 pickups, but it's not overly warm or overly bright, so it works well in a wide variety of setups.

To my ears, the C5 is much brighter than the Blues, with more output. It has a strong bass response, pulled back mids, and a lot of treble. I found it to be very bassy on the low strings and piercingly bright on the high strings. I could see it working well in a dark, midrangey setup, but I just couldn't make it work with my guitar and amp. I didn't like the lack of midrange, and it had too much output for my tastes.

Thanks Ryan. Great review. Its interesting how a pup in one setup can be so different from a pup in another setup. I'm using my C5 in a basswood body, and the highs don't strike me as piercing at all. However, I am using 250k pots, since its mated with the two QP's.

So . . . maybe a C5 with 250's is a good match. At least in some setup's.
I would like to try a quot;Bluesquot; though. That might mate with the QP's, or perhaps some tapped SSL-6's real fine.

Edit: I just realized what I said there. I'm not using 250k's per se, but have the quot;variable loadquot; pot setup in this guitar. I have it dialed down to around 250k, is what I mean. I'll be swapping the pots out permanently as soon as I get the time.

For those of you who think of putting seths into strats I think there are two important things you ought to know. The first is good but the second is bad news:

1. For fat strats as TheArchitect said, you do not need trem-spacing. In fact lone star strats come with the regular ( = gibson) spaced pearly gates 's.

2. Seths as any other exact PAF clone has long legs with rectangular legbases (as opposed to rounder ones that you can see on some of the Gibson pickups like the 500T. I am not too sure about BB's and 49x series, but if interested let me know, and I will check that for you when I get home.) So a seth would not fit into a stock strat even though it is already routed for HB's by Fender. The legs simply would be too long. Then you'd either have to route the body accordingly (dremel stop) or swap the base plate of the seth with that of PGs, CCs, C5s,....

I have used regular spaced pickups in trem loaded guitars before and it worked just fine. If you want a Seth in your Strat, put it in.

Any pickup can be special ordered with long or short mounting legs, it's one of those quot;floor shop customquot; options, and I believe the upcharge is only $10 or so.

Ryan

I don't know why my Explorer is trembucker spaced.. but i'm about to put a pair of Seth's ..would it work fine?? I'm using a normal spaced dimarzio super distortion bridge and it works normally..

Wow.... 1 yr, 5 months, 2 weeks, 4 days....

AND STILL ALIVE AND KICKING!

I`v been wondering about the ame thing myself. I would love to have a tremspace Seth lover. It`s the best sounding vintage bucker in the clips,i wonder why there`s so little said about it here on the board. I`d love to read some reviews about it......anyone?
