Hi guys
I've built a les paul on my own. Khaya body (like Mahogany) Wenga top, Bahia neck (more or less like Gibson les paul, little more attack, little less mudd). As my selfmade pickups don't work too well, I'm planning to replace them by duncans. As I have many metal axes with ceramics yet, I wanna use Alnico5 PUs on this guitar. I play Hard Rock, Metal, Thrash, Death... I use a Diezel Herbert Top and Engl Cabinets Vintage 30. I'm mostly sure that I'LL use a sh-4 Jeff Beck at Bridge, but in neck position, I'm not sure wether to use a sh-1 '59 or a seymourDuncan Jazz. as I play dirty riffs on bridge PU, I#m looking for a smooth singin, crying nosey guitar sound for leads and solos on my neck Pu, like for example Zakk Wylde has on quot;down to earthquot;, doesn't have to be too rude (can be) but sustainful singing and crying, voice-imitating sound. So would you advice a '59 or a Jazz for neck position, or something else (No EMG 85 please, wanna use gold covers on this guitar) Thanks guys, keep shred

The 59N can be woofy in the lows in some LPs or those style guitars....I haven't tryed a Jazz, but everyone says the Jazz is not bassy, has some jangle in the highs and is articulate....I haven't tryed this pickup yet,so I'm going on other peoples wordings...I Just fixed my 59N woofiness by going to an A4 magnet...Fixed it right up perfect!

Well, since I regularly voice my opinions that the JB is not a superior pup I hear that that JB and Jazz is seymour's favorite combo a LOT. I'm ordering one to go with my custom

If you go with the 59, swap the magnet to an A4 like what STRATDELUXER97 did. The Jazz is a great bridge pickup. Very articulate, clean, works well under high gain. It's my favorite neck pickup out of the box. It works well with other bridge pickups too, nut just the JB.

I think a lot of high gain players would love a4 pickups, especially the 7.5 Fralin. It's very articulate and not woofy in the least. It reminds me of the Jazz with less bass and treble. I'm not sure if it would match well with the JB though.

I have a feeling that you couldn't go wrong with the Jazz and JB. They are made to match and the Jazz is very articulate, with less bass than the '59.

I switched to the Jazz from the 59 in my LPs. Basically what everyone has said is quot;right on the money.quot; The Jazz is much more articulate IMO. My bandmates were constantly telling me my tone was muddy with my LP while playing through the neck 59. I also coil tap the neck which adds another tonal dynamic. BTW - I use the Jazz with Customs (SH-14) in all my LPs as well.

The cure for this is an A4 59N.

got a jazz in both a les paul and a sz320,and it's clean and articulate in both guitars,i'd never tryed a 59 tho.

I haven't heard either in a Les Paul, but I would probably go with the extra clarity of the Jazz.

Anyone try a jazz/59 hybrid for the neck? I'm thinking of this for a Les Paul.
