Hi there,

i've got a DRRI which sounds great except for some awful cone cry. I am going to replace with Eminence Texas Heat. any opinions?

Most people would say to replace it with a Vintage 30. It seems to handle the bottom a little better. I have '67 Deluxe Reverb this amp has an emmenince speaker in it.... not sure which one, but I will say the bass on this amp can be a little farty espicially with HB PUPS. I plan on replacing mine with the Vintage 30.

Check this thread that Lew started. He offers a lot of insight on a varitey of speakers in a variety of Amps.

I don't know anything about the Texas Heat but I do know that a Deluxe Reverb really benefits from a highly efficient speaker like the Celestion Vintage 30 or G12H30. A great speaker like that will improve the low end and keep it from farting out and will also make the DR alot more gig-worthy.

At just 22 watts, that's not a lot of power for gigging, but a nice Vintage 30 or G12H30 will make a DR sound like it picked up another 10 or 15 watts of output just because those speakers give you so much more volume per watt compared to most stock speakers.

Thanks Lew,
the main reason I am looking @ the Eminecne is for the price. What about their Vintage 30 copy? (thought Im not sure which one it is...)

I know JumpMarine has some..would love his input too.

My brother Bruce has some experience with the V-30 clones and stocks them. from : localhost/I have not tried them. He thinks pretty highly of the clone although Bruce has told me that it's not quite the equal of a real Vintage 30. Truth be told, I'd save my money if I were you and score an 8 ohm G12H30...sounds better in a DR: more bass, more mids and smoother highs than the Vintage 30. The Vintage 30 does seem a little louder, clearer and seems to have more prescence in a DR though. If you're after THAT then go for a Vintage 30. You can also find them on Ebay used...you might look there. Lew

I just spoke to Dave @ Avatar speakers and he has G12H30's for a great price. I am ordering tomorrow....thanks you guys for the wonderful input!

That's great! Come on back and let us know how you like it after you've had a chance to use it for awhile. I think you made the right choice. Lew

I keep saying the Eminence V12 is a great speaker but I seem to get ignored. They're good enough for Mike Soldano for his cabs.

Not only that but they're made in the good ol' USA! Eminence makes some excellant speakers...always has. They're not my favorite 12's, Celestions are...but for the money the Eminence line is unbeatable. Lew

My G12H-30 is on the way. I will probably get it next Friday. I have three gigs next weekend so I will post an update in about a week or so.

P.S. I really want to thank all on this board (especially the almighty Lew). You guys have provided me with a veritable wellspring of information packaged in respectful, funny dialog. Cheers to all of you on this board. I believe that when people say quot;online communityquot; this should be what they think about.

You'll like the G12H30s. I had some Weber C1230's (vintage G12H30 clones) in my Trutone 2x12 and they sounded absolutely delicious. Nice big warm bottom, clear and atriculate mids and smooth, crispy highs.

Since I've movied to a louder amp with MORE bass tones I'm getting some Eminence Swamp Thangs, which should be arriving today.
