I'm looking into getting some locking tuners for my Strat in the near future. I know Sperzal's are good but I don't know if they require any drilling on the headstock. I'd like to get some opinions on some good locking tuners that don't require a lot, if any, modification to the headstock as far as drilling goes. Does anyone know if they American Deluxe Strat/tele locking tuners are any good? They look just like the Sperzals. Any help would be appreciated. The year and type of strat is in my sig. at the bottom of this post. Thanks. BTW color doesn't really matter, chrome, gold, black whatever. I'm putting some black graphtech saddles on so I guess maybe black tuners would look good? It's a sunburst so maybe gold I dunno. Whatever you guys can come up with, thanks!
Whoops sorry I guess the year wasn't in there I got it in '99 or '00 if I remember right, and I got it brand new. I can check the serial number when I get home. Don't really know HOW much of a difference the year will make but I know that sometimes it does make a difference.
I do believe that on Fender American Standard Strats, such as yours, Sperzels are DIRECT REPLACEMENTS and are they very best of replacement tuners...I say grab some! -Will
The locking tuners the fender puts on its strats/teles are schaller i believe. Schallers or Sperzels should fit just fine.

the schallers are direct replacements. the sperzels are not. i like schallers better, but both are a whole lot better than non-locking ones for string changing alone.
The Fender - Schaller Locking tuners have 2 pegs on them. The locking Schallers from Stew-Mac only have one peg thus would require drilling another hole.
I got Fender-Schaller locking tuners on eBay for my 2004 Am Std Strat. There are plenty of other sellers with them in eBay stores.
