This is an old trick. Does it work, in any way? I have a smallish room which i use to record and practice. I do not want to do the proper quot;Soundproofingquot; with the inner dry-wall, airtight with special materials and the rest. I just want to be able to play a little louder on the drum-machine, guitar and bass guitar and not feel like I'm sharing.
So i thought of doing the following: hang thick blankets off the walls (about 2-3 inches off, not against. Then decorate the room with some odd angled bookshelfing. Am i wasting my time, natural light and blankets on such efforts?
I'm not a high volume guy. Just wanna rock out a little. And work in a slightly deader acoustic environ. Also i don't want total sound isolation, because I know that's not possible. i've checked out from : localhost/the blankets for winter nights? Note- blankets off the wall...
It probably won't help much. Isolation requires MASS and air-tightness, blankets have neither. They will knock out the treble (inside the room and out), but won't do much to kill the low-end thump-thump-thump that most annoys neighbors.
**** they neighbours.....Crank that ****!!!!
HELL YEAH! - But, err... I don't like the room's boomy, bathroom vibe. MY Neighbours are deeply vile bottom-feeders who'll steal my gear if they know it's there....

As Rich S said...
Hanging blankets up will help create a quot;deadquot; sounding room for recording though.
