i just strung up my am dlx strat with not even slinkies and it's great. The bends are rough on the finger muscles, but after a couple of days of exercises ill be back in full action.
It really makes the guitar feel like a professional instrument.
Don't hurt your hands...
12's (I'm assuming in standard) are pretty heavy, and you shouldn't be using them for macho status alone - it would be stupid to injure yourself just to say you play thick strings.
That said, if you can handle them, then glad you like them.

I bet they do! I went to .011's on my Standard Strat a few years ago and they did wonders for that guitar. Most importantly, they solved the not so great tuning stability that it had with its punier .009's. Not to mention its heavier tone.
Right now that same Strat is strung with .10's which is the perfect balance for me. I've also strung my Standard Tele with .010's and my 50's RI Esquire came from the factory with .010's, so its gonna be all .010's for me!
But i have noticed that any guitar that comes from the factory with .009's seems to have much better tuning stability after you go up in string gauge, at least that was so much the case with my Standard Strat. FenderBender

Don't you use 12-52 for standard?
I just tried that going up from 11s, it wasnt worth it really, the fatter sound didnt surpass how it was harder to bend, i could only handle it a couple of days, figuring that id get used to it, but my fingers got sore, and now im back on 11s, and my playing is much better. Just make sure that your not straining when you bend, cuz thats not a good thing.

LOL, I´m actually considering going up in guage to 14-70 because I find them too flabby

You know how everybody always flips out about how heavy SRV's strings were? I read the other day that they were 13,15,19p,28,38,58, with an 11 substituted for the 13 occasionally. Factor in that they were tuned down a half (or sometimes whole) step, and they really don't seem all *that* heavy.

GHS makes one called the Low Tune, or something to that effect, in a blue package that goes 11,15,19p,28,38,58. You can also order singles from any music store. I'm spoiled, as my favorite local guy carries almost every GHS string they make

The 70 is nice.
I'm using 13-70 for drop C, but I also bring the 6th string upto D and it sounds great.
Im actually comming down a bit...I used 11's and 12's for years and more years lately it's been 10-52 (light top heavy bottom) on the Fenders and 11-52 (Med) on the other stuff, now Im even thinking about going to 10-52's on everything. I could never go lower that that though...the tone is just too thin on anything any smaller...
13,15,19p,28,38,58 sounds pretty good. ill probably try that on my next set, as the 24p feels a tad heavy. Is there anywhere you can get individual strings?
I just ordered 12 custom bulk sets , 12-15-19-30-40-54, for pretty cheap.
