Hey guys. I have a Kustom KAA65 acoustic guitar amp here that is buzzing and clicking while turned on. It does not consistantly buzz or click, but the amp will do it on any channel and happens randomly for a short while(10-45 sec) then stops. The noise is sort of a continuous buzz with an evenly spaced click(1/4 a sec - 1/2 a sec apart). Do any of you ahev any suggestions on what might be the problem?
Thanks a lot!
bump, this is very important and i dont want it to get lost. Sorry!
It may be an issue with a faulty op amp as the noise seems to oscillate. There is a constant buzz with an oscillating pop whose speed is poretty constant until the effects channel is engaged then the oscillation period halves.
Thanks for any help, im going to order in some new op amps and try that out if i dont get any suggestions soon.
Also, the noise seems to be coming from the tweeter only, but that may be deceptive as its hard to tell.
bump!
This sounds like it could be either of a couple things:
1. You have a bad solder connection on a board somewhere. As the amp warms up and the circuit boards expand and flex, a connection is just barely breaking contact.
2. You have a semi-conductor somewhere, thats breaking down. (Semi-conductor = transistor, IC, etc.)
The solution is pretty much the same for both, but I hesitate to have you go into a quot;hotquot; amp. (Turned on.) If I was troubleshooting this, I'd poke around the circuit board with a wooden, or fiberglass probe, and see if I could make the noise start or stop. If you know what you're looking for, you can sometimes quot;eyeballquot; the bad solder connection. If you look closely, you'll see a small quot;haloquot;, or micro-crack around the solder pad.
But if you aren't sure of your abilities in this area, take it to a tech. I'd hate to see you fry your butt.
Thanks a lot artie. I have quite a bit of experience with tube amps, but am new to the world of solid state. I was pretty sure it was an op amp, but I wanted a little bit of guidance. I did not find any problems with the circuit board so i am going to order in some replacement ICs from Kustom(they are right down the street from me) and put em in and see if it helps.
Thanks again,
Brian
