I want to replace the tuners on my Taylor acoustic. I wanted to know which type of grovers were the best? OR if there were maybe some even better tuning machines (besides Waverly)

I like the look of the Imperial grovers but they say they're best suited for an Arch top electric

Unless they are locking, or have a certain look you are going for, most all tuners will work equally well. You may have some that are more smooth, or have a more quot;tightquot; feel, but tuners are tuners. Lighter tuners are said to let the headstock vibrate more making the instrument more resonant...who knows.

1. I've replaced several sets of tuners using everything from mini-Schallers to Ping. They're all pretty good

I have Shallers on my LP and they're really good. I've got Grover locking tuners on my SG and love them.

The whole thing that's really great about Taylors is that they're completely modern. The Grover Imperials make me think 1930s Art Deco Archtop.

What's wrong with the ones on your Taylor? Unless they are worn or you just think they're ugly you won't gain anything by replacing them.

Sorry, that's one of those old wives tales. In terms of preserving sustain (which is what is meant by the overused and oft misunderstood quot;resonancequot;) the heavier and more secure a tuner is, the better. The headstock will vibrate anyway and, as with a pendulum, the mass attached is largely irrelevant when it comes to determining its periodicity..
