I know Kim used a Guild guitar and chris used les pauls alot live (and ben was known to use some mosrite-looking basses sometimes). But, I'm wondering if anyone could let me know what kind of amps and stuff they used.

PS, it's not on Guitar Geek.

So as far as I know:

Kim - Guild electric, some SGs, anyother guitars? - Amps???

Chris - Les Pauls? - Amp????Thanks ahead of time.

Kim used Peavey tube amps from the late 80s, pre 5150 era. I think they were called 'ultra 120s'.

I'm pretty sure Cornell used early mesa tremoverbs or rectos.

Secret Soundgarden ingredient: many of the guitar tracks on 'superunknown' and 'upside' were recorded using a stock fender telecaster.

Cornell was, at the time of Superunknown and Down on the Upside, a big fan of Gretch guitars.

Superunknown is one of my fav albums of all time... just a great all-round album

Soundgarden one of my fav top 5 bands of all time, too.

I have a Guitar World mag from that period with Kim and Chris on the cover. I'll open it up first chance I get and see what secrets it reveals.

Angelo.

Peavey Butcher amps with a Guild SG style electric. In the 90s, he switched to Mesa (forgot which ones though).

The only thing I would add would be that I think they were Rectifiers.

I believe Kim's Guild 'SG' was an S100 Solara (spelling?) or similar.

AFAIK I remember Chris using what looked like Black Gretch Duojets live.

I have no ideas about amps but the Peavy Butcher seems to be ringing in my memory

I saw their very last quot;full length concertquot; here on Maui and the stage was loaded with Mesa Dual Rectifiers. Kim was playing his usual Guild S-100 polaris and Chris had like 13 Telecasters, each one tuned specific to a song. Early days Kim played Peavey VTM single channel amps.

Kim always used Guild S-100's, Firebirds, Telecaster, and a few LP Customs through (in the old days) Peavey VTM heads and Marshall Cabs, and early on Chris would play whatever guitar Kim was not playing through Kim's back up guitar rig. The chrous you hear on the old Soundgarden stuff is an MXR, he used Dunlop wahs, but later on Kim started using a Coloursound Fuzz/Wah in the studio and the Dunlop live. In later days Kim stuck with the S-100's, Firdbirds, and Telecasters and switched to Mesa rectos live and lots of cool vintage stuff in the studio (AC-30's, Orange's, Plexi's, 800's and even still had the VTM's). Chris got bit by the Gretsch bug as well as the Telecaster bug, he took advantage of Kims Mesa endorsement and got lots of Mesa gear...rectos live and Mavricks in the studio. Hiro always played a Fender Jazz bass as far as I know and Ben was also into Fender basses. Ben got lots of CS Fender stuff after the band got money.

I always think quot;Gretsch Duo Jetquot; when i hear soundgarden...

chris used Music Mann amps early on. and an LP custom.

Kim used those PV's until switching to dual recto's post badmotor. and yes .. Guild s-100 .. firebirds , LP's, etc..

I've also seen chris play a jazzmaster from time to time ..

I have a great bootleg vid from 88 shot in LA @ the whiskey I think ... cool show. and nice to see them w/ low budget gear .. rocking and hungry!

Soundgarden Rawks!!!!!!!

Gretsch Duo Jets, huh??????

When I saw them on the Superunknown Tour (the Rev Horton Heat opened....BADA$$ show!!!!), Kim played the above mentioned guitars, mainly a white Guild.....Cornell played nothing but LPs from what I recall.

I'm old amp; don't remember alot, but I do remember being in awe of Cornell. The way he played amp; just friggin' effortlessly SCREAMED for a good 1 1/2-2 hours amazed me!!!!
