I'm going to be wiring up a mini switch for the first time today and I was wondering what wattage iron to use...I have a radio shack iron that's switchable between 20 and 40 watts...I usually use 40 watts for guitar stuff, but I wonder if 40 watts will be too much for those tiny lugs on the mini switch....I was thinking 20 watts might be better, but maybe it will be too low?
....also, what tip would be best? I use a chisel tip usually, but I have a pencil tip that I could use for the mini switch....
What do you guys think?
bump...
id say use the pencil for that switch
I tend to lean toward the idea of higher-wattage/higher-temp, my thought being, I want to heat up the metal quickly. Hit it, and get off it.
If you are quick about it, you should be alright. I've used higher wattage (40w) irons on minis before without frying the component.
