yeah, go.
which viper u talking abt? some have neck joints which are quot;visiblequot; like on the SG but some have set-thru joints. vipers has one tone one volume, SG has 2 individual tone and volume controls. higher end vipers come with active EMGs, tone pros locking bridge ,earvana nut and sperzels.

to add to that, the vipers have an offset SG body style.
vipers have a good amount more body mass too

Definitely. I'd pimp an SG, but if I was going for metal I'd get a Viper.

He did say an ESP Viper? I thought that there was only one model with three different paint jobs, black and two different camos. Or are you talking about CS models?
The neck is a little thinner on the ESP, the body is thicker, the fretboard is made of ebony instead of rosewood. Only two controls and EMG pickups as stock. I think that the pickup positioning can be different as well. IIRC the ESP has a more full bodied sound while the Gibby is twangier and brighter. The ESP is more expensive, if we're comparing the standard line Viper and the Standard SG like I've done.
You should go out and try them out, they have their differences. I'd believe the ESP to be of better quality typically, but that's just my opinion, although it's after playing many different models of both makes and currently owning an ESP and a Gibson, which actually is an SG standard. The ESP isn't a viper.
If you're talking about the LTD Viper, I had one for over a year. I didn't play it as much as my Gibson SG's. I was kinda dissapointed with the Viper as I was expecting it to play like an SG, but with a thicker, heavier tone, due to the EMG's and the thicker body. IMO the viper didn't give the sound I was looking for. It still sounded very thin, maybe due to the EMG's. My SG's still sound fatter. It only had 1 vol and 1 tone knob which I found frustratingly limiting since I'm used to the tone controls on the SG. The offset body style felt uncomfortable. I don't know why, but as hard as I tried I couldn't get used to it, which suprised me, cuz I think my SG is one of the most comfortable guitars to play. I'm not sure if the neck was longer on the viper, but the neck was also uncomfortable - I had trouble reaching some frets and the neck felt substantially thicker or fatter. The body was a very nicely painted sunburst color, but the body was obviously 3 or more peices and very visible. All of my SG's appear to be 1 piece. The strap buttons on the Viper are on a wierd spot - right behind the upper horn. This made the heavy headstock go stright to the ground. I found myself supporting the neck from falling while trying to play.
IMO - Get the SG. I sold the viper a few weeks ago, coincidentally and I'm getting another SG to replace it...
I might get flamed for this but, I am sure the ESP/LTD is a higher quality axe becasue of ALOT better QC!!!! LOL!

yeah so i meant what are differences tone wise so...if the SG is brighter, it'll cut through better, am i right? I'm plannign on getting either an SG or Viper or Les Paul but i the les paul's infamous cutaway expells me from the last 2 frets, so that's why i'm looking at 24 fret vipers.

Yup, you know high quality equipment all right! ROTFLMAO!!!!! Oh yea......
Oh yeah!...well you're a jerk!
I've owned a few of both. The Viper and the SG have similar shapes, but that's where the similarity ends. They are nowhere near the same guitar and not really even comparable IMO.
The Viper has 24 frets, a thick body, and a thin neck. It's tone is pretty thick and lots of bass. The current Vipers (both the Ltd 400 and the ESP) come with EMG's, so they are more inclined for metal.
The SG has 22 frets, a thicker neck and thinner body. It's tone is bighter and thinner. The SG comes with passives, either the 498T/490R (standard), 490T/490R (special), or 57 classics (61RI), all of which are going to sound more traditional.
I put Duncan passives in my Viper and it wasn't and SG.
I put EMG's in my SG and it wasn't a Viper.

is that the best you can come back with? Come one bro, you have to do better than that.
You started it all with an insult bro! You want me to keep going or, you had enough yet?
You might want to step off now bro, (in a French accent from Monty Python) Or I will taunt you a second time!
The biggest difference I noticed between the 2 is that the Viper has a fuller bottom, but the SG has the biting cut-thru tone that sounds better to me in a band situation.

thinner? what about Angus Young or Tommy Iommi? They used Sg's and they are clearly not thin.
And also, would the thincker neck be harder to play? I currently own a Fender Strat (C neck) is that sopposed to be on the thicker or thinner side?

They might have used whatever, but it doesn't mean that the SG didn't sound thinner compared to a viper. It typically does.
I think that the neck thickness is a personal preference thing that's learned by time. I wouldn't stress over it.

Did I say people who used SG's have thin tone? I don't believe I did. I said the SG is thinner/brighter than the Viper - which it is.
