Hey Forum,
I have a Gibson Les Paul Elegant with stock '57 classics. Its a nice tone but I think that it could be a lot better. I am looking into some pups that will be a great compliment to the LP shape/wood, plus the chambered body that Elegants feature (ebony neck too). I'm thinking I want to stay with PAF type. I want a very open, clear, warm, creamy tone, but still have a drive and bite to it, but staying completely organic. I have a general idea of what I want as I have owned a few Duncans, I just want some opinions.
Here is what I am looing into:
1.) Antiquity Set
2.) Seth Lover Set
3.) '59 set
4.) Gibson BB 1 amp; 2
5.) '59 B amp; Seth N
I already have LPs with the usual combos: JB/'59, JB/Jazz, C5/'59, C5/AIIP
Also, I need opinions on the wiring set up. Keep it stock? (don't really want to) Or go with the 500k, CTS, ect.... Or the RS Kit that I am hearing a lot about on the Les Paul Forums.
Sniper-V
Seths , Preferably Antiquities. IMO
Firsr I'd try the CTS 500K pots, and orange drop caps (instead of the RS kit). You might get to like them 57's. I have seen many people liking them especially in semihollow guitars. But I gotta add that they are not my favorites.
If not satisfied, it all depends on the bite you wanna get in the bridge. If you need lotsa bite, and solid (non-spongy) bass go with a hot 59b (or get yourself an antiquity bridge and swap its dun-aged magnet with an a5). If you'd be happy with a more spongy but still biting bridge tone get yourself a PGb. For less bite and present mid range honk seths would be next. If you really are keen on your clean tone gibson's BB2 (as far as my experience goes) is a great pickup. But overdriven it might be a tad too wild. For a round deep 3d soft but still open and hollow a2 PAF bridge tone get yourself an antiquity bridge.
For the neck, there is only one choice! An antiquity neck HB.
