how do they play?
playability is ok but the sound is a HUGE difference from the Epi G400 and Epi Goth SG. due to the gibson iommi pickups. i really like how it sounded. well, its an SG, it has better upper neck access and is lighter than an LP lol. and it has 24 frets instead of 22.
It's slightly neck heavy but otherwise a great guitar. The neck is thick and comfortable but still gives easy access to the upper frets, especially with it having 24 frets. Both of my guitars have 24 frets and it really makes a difference for my small hands. I also like the beveled edge it has - easier on the forearm. Pac112 is correct that the Gibson Iommi pickups sound awesome. They may be the clearest, quietest humbuckers I've played. There are no fretboard dots past 12 but there are dots along the side and you easily get accustomed to it. My Fender has none whatsoever on the fretboard and it's really not a problem.
bump!
Anymore input out there on this model? It is on my shortening list of guitars I am looking into. Since replacement Gibson HB's are not cheap, the price difference between this and other similar Epi SG types is not all that great...plus It has those cross fret markers...very cool touch.
Thanks in advance.
I'm gassin' for one.
I almost bought one over my Gibby Gothic SG for the pups alone....But I got a killer deal on some Duncans. I'd get one now if I had the extra cash. It plays better than any epi SG I've played and most Gibsons too. The inlays are pretty sweet and setup was great on the one I played.
P.S. a leather guitar strap cures the neck heavy problem on SG's.
