Hello, I am sure this has been covered

What is generally thought of as the best Fender Strat replacement neck??

Thanks!!!

im guessing for the price at least.. warmoth?

i want to put anew body on my strat one day and ive heard warmoth is great. but im sure there are some other solutions

Actually I believe most people will say Usa custom guitars as they offer more back profiles.

Given the praise I’ve heard regarding USACG and Warmoth, and my own experience with Warmoth, I don’t think you can go wrong with either company. If time is an issue, you can usually find what you are looking for (especially if it is a strat or tele neck) in Warmoth’s showcase (formerly the thrift shop).

Warmoth will cut any profile your hands desire, it just costs a small upcharge is it´s not one of their standard ones

Where with USACG there's no upcharge unless you go super super thin (they recommend graphite stabilizers in this scenario) or ridiculously fat. 90% of the profile options are no extra fee. Twice now I've spec'd out the same neck from both places and USA has come out $50-100 cheaper.

The best replacement neck is custom made to what your priorities are. That's the whole point of a replacement neck, imo.

yeah, screw USACG and Warmoth. your better off going through a small company luthier and having one totally made by hand. but if you want something relatively cheap that doesn't totally suck, Warmoth is okay. i'm not saying that Warmoth's quality is bad, it's just that they are very limited in how they can produce a neck. And then when you get it, you still need to get the frets leveled and all that stuff, so if you go through one of the small guys, then your neck will be ready when you get it. So really the cost effectiveness of the mass producer shops is kind of out the window when you consider the price of having to actually get your neck in playing condition once you receive it.

just my thoughts, though i'm sure some people wind up with a neck that doesn't need a fret leveling, it is nearly inevitable when you consider the differences in each guitar.

I'm one of the small guys and we can generally build replacement necks to your specs for close to what you'd pay at Warmoth or USACG. It just depends on who you want to deal with.

thanks a lot guys...

are mighty mite any good? i know a few people that have them and are happy.

i want something that is prob almost a '56 custom shop size but no quite that big. the hwy 1 neck profile isnt bad.

this is for a highway1 body, some know the story some dont, but anyway i need a new neck for it...

thanks again,
aaron

I've heard some bad stories about the mighty mite stuff.

Really I'd say the question is, what do you want to spend?

My neck from USA Customs didn't need a fret level, in fact the fretwork they do is immaculate. I've been told their main fretter worked in the Fender Custom Shop at some point, though I can't say if that's true or not. The only thing I had to do was spray the finish on it. Now that they are moving Roxy in, that won't even be a worry. In my experience, the cost of having a small time luthier hand-make you a neck will probably be more costly than getting a Warmoth and having it leveled, etc., upon receiving it anyways.

aaronMighty Mite necks aren't bad for the price. They need a level, crown, and new nut. For the cash they are hard to beat if you like the standard spec. I've had a few in my day.

Between Warmoth and USA customs? I'd go w/ USACG no doubt. I've seen alot of POOP come out of Warmoth.

gonna check into usacg, i remember their prices being a little higher but if they are this much more useable then i may as well spend a little extra.

the mighty mite looked good because of the price, and unfortunately this poor guitar has been thru the wringer

i am fixing it, and i will post pictures when it is done!

Can you tell us more about yourself?

Funny you say that. I've spec'd out two guitars from them to compare with Warmoth specs, same wood, same guitar shape, same everything. Warmoth came out cheaper. A regular boat contour tele maple/maple neck from Warmoth is cheaper than USACG. I have a spreadsheet laying everything out. What I do like from Warmoth is they will install the nut for a small fee and it'll still cheaper. Of course, the costs will change on options choosen from both places. The Standard Tele body (ash or alder) is the same price from either place.

Does USACG have a quot;thrift shopquot;? I haven't been to their site in a long while. Anyway, I'm telling you, you can't beat the deals you can find in Warmoth's Showcase. Those necks are discounted and ready to ship.

i have necks from warmoth, from allparts, from mighty mite, from fender, from schecter (strat head) and from charvel (strat head) and from musikraft. and i have to say, from now on i will be using for all my necks! i have 3 now and they are some kick ass necks. they use some great wood...the figuring is better than any warmoth or usacg i've seen. they also have some real nice C shaped back shapes (at no upcharge) medium C is my favorite of theirs. they also do a flat radius of whatever you want (if it's not listed just ask, Jim, the head guy there is real cool to deal with!) at NO upcharge like warmoth with a $35 charge for a flat radius...i got sick of paying for that, it's just stupid. musikraft charges more for a compund radius which makes sence. i just don't get the upcharge at warmoth for a flat radius. also the prices are lower than warmoth due to the no upcharge for a flat radius or a different back shape. they also offer oil finishes and nitro finishes...no thick crappy poly and the finishing prices are low! as with EVERY neck you may need to dress the fret ends but that's an easy job which i started doing myself. oh, and they also do neckthrough guitars!!!

i guess for me, the reason Warmoth/USACG would have been more expensive is because i know exactly the neck shape i want along with wood specs that are always an upcharge from one of those guys. for a quot;basicquot; neck i guess their prices are pretty comparable but when you start looking at EXACTLY the neck you want, made to your own set dimensions, those babies can run upwards of $400. Warmoth is okay if you want to use their little preset method of making a neck but any time you deviate from those standards, it's another upcharge. but if you're a standard kind of guy then that's okay too. different strokes for different folks. for me, i went with one of the small guys and came out way ahead and feel like i got a better quality neck than could have come off the line at a larger place.
