How are Avatar cabs? I've been thinking about getting a 2x12 with a Vintage 30 and a G12H30, and I was wondering if anyone here has any opinions or reviews of them. Thanks.
I have no opinion on avatars, but I do have an ear candy cab, the 2x12 buzzbomb to be exact. I recently played a show through a Mesa/Boogie oversized recto 4x12 and thought it sounded awful in comparison. Check em out at Tim will put in a speaker combo to bring out the best in your amp. My cab honestly slays 4x12s quite easily.
I have one with duual V 30's. i haven't been able to take it on a big trial but so far it sounds great. I have herd that the combo you are talking about sucks because it brings the cab down to a 60 or 90 watt cab not sure witch.
But in general I Love Avatar cabs. They are built as solid as rocks!!

1 for Avatar cabs.
I don't have any experience with the particular speaker combination you are talking about. Personally, I would go for the combination of a G12T75 and a Vintage 30 instead - that will get you into the 135 watt nieghborhood, I believe, and should have a similar tonal quality only perhaps a bit more modern sounding.

Thanks. That's a great combination of speakers IMO. The more prominent highs and mids of the V30 paired with the better low end from the G12H30 makes a very well rounded configuration. I have an Avatar cab with that layout and love it.
I plan on getting an avatar 2x12 eventually too, I'm thinkin about either a combo of his hellatone 30 and 60(aged g12h30 and v30) or a combo of a hellatone 30 and greenback. I run a 30 watt orange ad30 head so the wattage rating for that speaker combo is fine.
I also saw an auction for a 2x12 cab that was basically a mini version of a slanted samp;p marshall 4x12, it looked killer but I can't find that auction in the current listings or completed.
I also have an Avatar 2x12 with 2 Celestion V30's in it. Mine is the model that comes with a closed back and can be replaced with an open back panel.
I'm considering the same combo you're talking about...but I'm not much help at the moment. However, I can comment that I'm extremely happy with the cabinet both sound wise and quality wise.

Close but no cigar on the wattage calculation. In a parallel circuit, the voltage drop is equal throughout, so in this case the max voltage handling is equal to the lowest powered speaker times the number of speakers. That's 120, since the vintage 30 is 60 watts.
You learn something everyday at the forums!
yeah but that would make the other one only 60 watts
^Yeah thats what it is. If the head you are going to be using is 60 watts its a good combo! but other wise i would get something else.

Cool thanks for the info - I'm not extreley techie as you can tell.
However, in response to the two posters above - it's not 60 watts total, it's at least 120. They're only called quot;Vintage 30squot;, their wattage rating is actually 60 watts a peice (times 2 = 120). The poster above is probably right in one regard though, if your amp is over 60 watts you might want something bigger than a 2x12. Perhaps a pair of 2x12 cabs or a 4x12.
