Hail!

i have a BC Rich NJ Warlock guitar that is a 2001 model which -if i'm not mistaken- has an alder body (and not those chesswood bodies they used later) and i wanna put new pickups on it..... i wanted to use the duncan Invader in the bridge position.... many of my friends recommended it for its high output and its intense bass sound...thing is, i read some posts here regarding this pickup and the reviews were extremely bad without any given reason which kinda puzzled me..........

i usually play extreme metal (ranging from old school and brutal death metal to funeral doom metal) and i use a heavy guage (dean markley's 11's) and tune all the way down to C......... i want a very heavy sound that suits the music i play and does not sound muddy at the same time.... i don't like very bright sounds though....but wouldn't lowering the gain in the case of an invader also kill the sustain??AHHH!!

i have a Behringer V-Ampire amp which i find to be amazing for what i play but is still a solid state amp so EMGs would sound very plastic with it....

regarding the neck pickup i want a pickup that has a bright high output and that won't sound muddy with the heavy guage and low tuning i use....

thanks in advance!!!
Sam

bump!

Ive learned from many suggestions that a custom or jb in the bridge and a jazz in the neck is great for metal. Also, if you go active, and emg 85/60 combo is great.

A custom can be really nice... Since you're such a fan of metal, maybe a Dimebucker would sound good? I have no experience whatsoever with this pick-up but heard a lot of good about it...

Neck: Maybe a full-shread would be nice, or even something lower output to give you some definition... A jazz?

Some of the heavier players will shime in... you'll get some good advice, just wait until Zerberus and cie. jump in...

Good luck!

Give the Invader a try. If it sounds a little too heavy, lower it some away from the strings. That should de-mud it just enough for the sound you're looking for.

i've heard that the invader doesn't work that well for low tunings but i've never tried it and i dont tune low. i'd recommend the dimbucker bridge/ fullshred neck. should peel the paint off of your walls.

bareknuckle miracle man
bareknuckle warpig
these might be a bit pricy as they're from the UK

thanks a lot for the replies!! still waiting for more opinions though thing is.... my budget is VERY tight and i can't afford a trial and error process u know.... i wanna buy them once and for all.... will probably exchange the invader for a dime though... as it makes more sense to have a brighter/stronger pickup for a heavy guage and a low tuning than a very bassy one....

hey how's the dime though?? is it too bright?

another voice for the dimebucker/full shred combo here. I use that combo in two of my NJ Riches and it's killer for dropped tunings. Both the dime and the full shred are pretty bright sounding pups by nature but combined with a dropped tuning to c or even lower they seriously slay anything. The dime makes a great rythm pup in c since it retains it's clarity and tightness and doesn't get anywhere near muddy(great for sounds like arch enemy and similar things). The Full shred in the neck also remains tight and focused but gives you more of a lead tone imo.
Those are my 0.02 but maybe i'm a bit biased since i just love that combo.

EMG 81!
this pup owns for all things METAL!

thanks a lot LC.... that was a pretty fair description!! wicked lester man... i don't have a tube amp to back up those emg toys..... i tried an EMG equipped esp (81,85) and it totally sucked!!! the sound was extremely plastic on a hybrid marshall (AVT series)... and i don't have a tube amp so they won't sound anywhere like wylde or neone else who uses them..... thanks a lot for the help neway... think i'll go for the dime then.... maybe i'll get the full shred later depending on the cash....

HAILS!!

What one song would you like to sound most like?

uh.... it's not that i wanna sound like someone but since i'm asked this question i guess the sound on quot;i'm brokenquot; would be awesome to get!

if you mean pantera's I'm broken then the dime would definitely be a great choice.
