$45 for a double black bobbin 59B that measures a nice strong 8.53K on my meter! I always like having at least 1 neck and 1 bridge 59 here at home...This pickup sounds great in just about every guitar I've tryed it in...I've had one in a strat and even my Gibson SG...I haven't tryed the 59B in my Love Rock and I thought it would sound great in that guitar...

I stuck a nickle cover on it and just a piece of masking tape across the slug bobbin top...I Love covers on my Gibson type guitars..

So the masking tape helps reduce microphonics from the cover? Do you use one layer, or double it up? I usually just dip 'em in paraffin for about 5 minutes but I guess that can change the sound on unpotted pickups... (BTW aren't most of the SD pickups potted?)

I replaced the A5 magnet in my old 59b with A2 for my Brawley S-S-H guitar, and it worked really well:

from : localhost/I bet that you bought that pickup from a music store on ebay - right?

Hi Steve....I used to dip my covers in wax,let the wax set up,and then clamp the cover and solder it...I'm now of the mindset that I just need to make sure there's no air gap between the cover and the slug bobbin....I just put one layer across the top of all 6 slug bobbins, again clamping the cover down snugly(making sure it's down all the way)and then soldering a bead on both sides of the bobbin plates and to the cover...

If you tap on the covers with a pick you get a loud, hollow sounding sound through your amp,but it doesn't create any microphonics...

Maybe Lew or some others could tell us how Duncan puts his covers on the Seth Lover and or the Antiquities?

I do know that with Duncan's pickups, any microphonic problems I've ever experienced were because of gaps between the cover and the bobbin tops..

The masking tape sounds like a good idea... especially if you just bought the pickup new and might be returning it.

But with wax it makes the pickups really solid... like brass knuckles!

Nice score John. Looks like it belongs in a jewelry box as much as a guitar.

I've been playing my new 50th Ann. A2 Seth set in my Les Paul Std, and haven't experienced any microphonics, even with highgain. Just flat out killer tone!
I love pickups that are between 8.4 - 9.5. These Anniversary Seths are 8.52/7.49
I live the hotter C-5 in some guitars, but I may start using 59B's for a couple like my HSS guitars. I wish all the 59 bridges were 8.5, or even a tad hotter.
