can any onyone tell me what a TELE bridge pickup would sound in the neck?
I saw a vintage Fender tele bridge pick up today at the Musci store..And was wodering how it would sound in the neck positon.. I know this is wierd but just wanted to know
Getting it to fit would be the first hurdle.
After that, you'd likely be looking at a very loud, very dark pickup. It will vary by model, obviously, but given the boosts in output and bass response built into most bridge model pups, those are the basics.
Getting it to fit actually wont be musch of a problem as the guitar is quot;POOL routedquot; or Unviersall routed.. and I can modify the pick guard.. I did that when I was installing the JB.... Of yes by the way I have a JB in the bridge... The tele pick up is a Original Fender Vintage pick up.
Thanks for the reply
This is what I am talking about...

A large part of the tele bridge PuPs sound is the metal bridge it's mounted in. I'm guessing it would sound O.K. ? But maybe not the sound your thinking about?
Hmm.. Yeah you are right there quot;A large part of the tele bridge PuPs sound is the metal bridge it's mounted inquot;. I was not thinking of the telesound exactly just was curoius if it would sound good.... I mean compare it to a normal single coil..in the neck?
it would probably be loud, have alot of bass and mids, but still have clarity like any good single coil would have

With all due respect, why is it everyone thinks this? My Music Man Albert Lee guitar's bridge pickup had a fantastic-sounding bridge pickup. Tom Anderson's Tele-type guitars have Strat-style hardtail bridges and they sound great. A friend of mine mounted a Tele bridge pickup to his Strat pickguard and it sounded great too. IMHO, there are so many variables that really just just matter.....
Hey Buth u said he put it under the strat pick guard how did it sound?

While I have no experiecne with how it would sound, bluesman extrodinare, Kenny Blue Ray, has done this on a few of his guitars using Van Zandt Flat pole tele bridge pups in both bridge and neck. He said it sounded very good. The man certainly knows tone, so I would guess it would work.
Hey Thanks telebooz....Good picks ups are hard to find out here....Some years back I had seen some dimarzios (Freds, PAF pro Tone zones and humbucker from hell, and HS3) but did not pick any of them up because I was debating alot then, I wanted a JB...and final did get one whihc sounds great and gives me the tone I wanted... but I do have afew regrets not picking up any of those especially the PAF PRo.... I know I may never get a chance to get a geniune Fender tele pup like this...So wanted to pick it up and try it out

IMHO, there is a variable that really does make a Tele bridge pickup sound like a Tele bridge pickup. It's the metal plate attached to the base. That's why my Albert Lee guitar sounded like it did. However, there are a ton of Tele pickups out there that do not have metal baseplates and they twang like the rest of them.
Exactly, which is why the only variable left that seems absolutely key to the Tele tone is the actual bobbin size and shape. Base plates, metal bridge plate mounting, saddle material, etc. will have an influence on the tone, but if you vary those on a Tele you still get a Tele tone. If you put a base plate on a Strat pickup you still don't quite get a Tele tone, no matter how nice it may sound.
I put a Tele HotRails in the neck of my tele once, I mounted it so that the two screws on the one side were close to the neck and the thirdone pointed at the bridge. Sounded good! I had a Gibson Dirty Fingers in the bridge at the time...
I might have a pic somewhere... if i ever find it, I'll post it...
thanks pinto... and very one else... I am not exactly looking for the tele tone but good neck tone
