ok i plan on getting a peavey XXX soon and i heard the clean channel isnt all that great.. would the BOSS Super Chorus pedal help that out at all?
and also can the Equalizer Pedal add an awsome boost to your solos? and would it be a good purchase to go with a XXX?
also if anyone knows if the phase shifter makes a better clean sound as well cause on the website it sounds pretty cool.
A chorus or a phase shifter are not gonna make the clean channel better...they will add a chorus or phase shifter sound to the sound the amp is making. As for using the GE-7 as a boost I did that for a while but to be honest I like the Duncan pickups booster better as a boost.
yeah on my amp i like the chorus with the clean i think it sounds nicer, so im just wondering if a chorus pedal wouldnt make an improvementin the clean channel at all, ive heard someone on this forum say their chorus pedal make there clean sound sound better
A chorus doubles the sound via a short delay (echo) length (about 10 to 30 milliseconds) that oscillates.
If you have a lousy clean sound, doubling said lousy clean sound will just make it doubly lousy.
I've been using a GE-7 equalizer as a solo boost on single-channel Marshalls for over 20 years. Never found a booster/overdrive/distortion that I like better.
Of course, I haven't had the opportunity to try out the Duncan Pickup Booster.
what if i hooked up an equalizer for clean could i get a nicer clean sound that way?
Maybe a preamp?
tube amp?

Put all the little drink umbrellas on a three-coil turd you want....it's still going to be a three-coil turd....
dammit... ok, is there ANY way i can make the clean sound on this amp better with any pedals or anything?

Well...you're at least halfway there.
Pedals will not make a bad sounding amp sound better. They'll just make it sound like a bad sounding amp sounding different. And depending on the effect, horrendously annoying.
If you don't like the sound of the amp then i would suggest not buying it.
First try the amp yourself if you haven't. You may decide that what you heard just isn't true, at least to your ear.
But if it does have a lousy sounding clean channel, there are two options:
1) If you really like the overdrive channel and don't think you can get as good or better an overdrive from any other amp, keep the amp and get a Fender or some other amp for clean, and an A/B box to switch between them.
2) Just get a different amp.
yeah i was wondering about that too
Not a pedal in the world could make a bad sounding amp sound good again.... I own lots of Peavey amps and i like the Classic 50's clean sound a lot.. I use the 5150 head for the heavy sounds and Classic 50 for clean tones.... when it's all hooked up i have 4 channels of fun.....

Try Xotic RC Booster. Bliss!
The XXX head actually has one of the nicest and highest headroom cleans I have ever heard. And a Chorus will sound awesome.

Why don't you put it in the other way? Get an amp with a very nice clean tone and use pedals to get the distortion. You could use two pedals, one for rythm and add the second for soloing.
well i think if your gonna have an effects chain going on, you shuld have a good amp! If the amp has a good clean channel the you have a good base to add to it. A bad clean channel will still sound bad after you dump a chorus and phase shifter in there. I would just look for a better amp with a beter clean tone and then go with pedals to color your tone in.
It's a lot easier to get an amp that sounds good clean and add distortion pedals. That's why there's half a million different distortion pedals and not a single 'clean' one.
Believe me, you only THINK you need a half-stack for ripping distortion sounds. There's a lot of sweet pedals for those of us who can't afford stadium-grade equipment.
