Has anyone replaced a stock tele bridge pickup with a single coil for strat?
Although they mount differently I'm sure someone has, I want to put in a JB Jr. - I don't want the hot rail for tele, I have the lipstick pickup in the neck and love it.

it can be done but its not the easiest thing to do. since the tele pup mounts to the bridge with three screws, one at the front, two back and the strat mounts to the pickguard with two on the outside, youll probably have to widen the rout a little on each side. at least i did when i put a strat pup in there, you can do it but it might be more trouble than its worth

You can also get a Tele JB jr. from the custom shop. You might also want to look into the lil 59 it sounds pretty good in the bridge as well.

If I remember correctly, the Lil 59 was supposed to be the JB Jr for Tele, but Duncan had to tame the wind. Something about the voicing of the JB Jr being incompatible with a Tele.

In A strat: No, the JBJr is a semi-cross between the Custom and the JB to my ears, while the Lilґ59 is definitely more quot;P.A.F.-ishquot; in tone....as was stated earlier, the JBJR for Tele didnґt work out as planned and became the Lilґ59 for Tele...Thatґs just what it ended up sounding like is all.

I think you misunderstood Jeremy, he was just elaborating on the mounting problem, not saying heґd done that w/ a JBJr so far (or maybe I misunderstood him)

Putting aside what a Telecaster is supposed to be for now, what is the best neck pickup format for a Tele?

I am starting a build using a Fender Am Std body. The body has a large neck rout so I can put in pretty much anything.

I think I know what I am going to pair up with the SD Broadcaster bridge pickup I have on the way, but Id be curious to see what the consensus is.

I have an alder-bodied Tele with an SD Broadcaster bridge pickup, I used a Kent Armstrong vintage Strat pickup at the neck.
Its beautifully balanced - I can use exactly the same amp settings for both.
No more wishing I had a liitle more top or bottom when switching between the two.

I love the sound of a Tele neck pickup... IMO, thats the best single coil sound in the universe.
