I'll play everything from blues to RHCP and Incubus to Metallica. Will a DS-1 do the job, or should I buy the SD-1 (how would this sound on the clean channel?)? I do also plan to get an EH Big Muff Pi USA (distortion/sustainer)
(blues is not what I play the most, but it's fun to play with that crunchy tone sometimes...)
John Fruisciante (sp?) has a DS-1, I believe... I'm sure if you turned the gain down it could give you some interesting (though not very smooth) sounds.
I've found the DS-1 still to be pretty distorted with the gain cranked down. What do you use for Metallica tones? I'd suggest a Blues Driver for blues tones (and you can get fairly gritty with it), but you're not going to get anywhere close to Metallica with it. I'm not so sure you'll be able to nail that with a Big Muff Pi either; you'll need a crisper and more even distortion.

The SD1 is better suited to blues and the DS1 grinds pretty well in a sought of JCM 800 kinda way...
I much prefer either the TS9 or a TS 808 for overdriven blues tones..
I've got both a DS-1 and an SD-1. The DS-1 is great for what it does, but quot;bluesquot; I don't see it doing very well. I do know that Jimmy Page used both pedals in his pedal board in the mid-80's with the Firm.
The DS-1 is WAY overkill for the Blues I tend to play. Even at times the SD-1 can get a little much and I find that I'm turning the Drive knob down more and more as I use it.
if you use the DS-1, crank your pup volume down, say abt half. the sound will clean up alot and might be of use.
