Hello to all.
Does anybody know where I can find parts to build a Fender like cab to match my blackface Prosonic? I'm talking speaker grille cloth, tolex to cover the cab, etc. Preferably within the U.K. but I'd be happy to hear about any U.S. based sites that may offer international shipping.

Also I'd like some general tips on speaker selection. They must be 10's but I don't know which brand to go with. The combo has Celestions in but everything I've read about them seems to suggest that Celestions G10 Vintage speakers are aimed more at hard rock. I'm going for more of a soft, warm woody tone. Would I be better advised going for Jensons?

If anyone has built their own cab before I'd love to hear about it. What you wish you'd known when you started, how big a 2x10 cab should be. I'm going to make it open-back as this is my first attempt so I'm trying to keep it as simple as possible.

Thanks,
Benja

Bump...

I don't like bumping my own threads but I'd really appreciate some help on this. I've answered all the other threads on the first page that I can so I think I've earned some help! Hehe.

Seriously though, please help!!!!

You Want simple? It don't get easier than this. I took my old Peavey backstage 30 1x10 combo. Took the chassie out and baffle board. I found a Peavey VTX 2x12 combo in the garbage (The amp was fried) measure the BS30's dimention's. I removed the 2x12 baffle board from the VTX and cut it to fit into the backstage. Stapeded the grill cloth on, Added a familar Automotive Logo... PRESTO !! a 1x12 Ext. cab. Cool, nice job Kmc.

Does anybody know any specific rules regarding how much clearance you should allow between the cab and the speaker? I'm sure there must be a certain distance to ensure the cab's strength. Just from looking inside my combo's I'd guess about 1 inch but I'd like someone to clarify this. It's so hard to find this sort of information on the net.

How tall should a 2x10 extention cabinet stand? I was guessing about 15 inches the feet. Does this sound about right?

Any input is appreciated.

You want it simple right? Unless your a Acoustic engineer being payed to design a cabinet? There are no rules beyond those's of common sence. It's just a box to hold a speaker. Build it sturdy, make it look cool.

You have to give people some time to respond to your thread. After all, this is a forum and people have to take time to read.

I get most of my cabinet building material here in the U.S. from Steel Sound. They have very good prices and good quality. You can even buy an empty cab and put your speakers in. It can be found on the web but unfortunately Steel Sound only ships within the States.

If you want to build your own cab, you can take a look at Larry Mundy's articles on how to build a speaker cabs on Shavano Music Online. There he talks about how to build a PA speakr cab but the basics are the same for a guitar cab. You can also go to kbapps.com to look for information on how to build your own cab. They even have a calculator to help you do the design, be it 2x or 4x. However, you need to know the specs of the speakers before you can use the calaulator. I suggest you look at the Jensen speakers because they tend to give you the most complete specs in the web. It should be a good start for you. Good luck!

Thanks for the tips Amateur, sorry I'm so impatient. I guess I get a little carried away, opps! :-)

Please could you clarify the web addresses of the suggested articles you posted. I'd like to read as much as I can before I start throwing money at this thing.

Thanks again,
Benja
