What do you guys think of the modern Gibby LP Jr's? I've seen a few on Ebay that can be had for around $750 or so. How would you compare with he Korean PRS Soapbar II? I know the PRS has two pups which is probably going to give it a wider tone palette...but that's just a guess.

I heard that the jp jr's are pretty good. You can probably find a jp jr with 2 p90s at ebay.

P-90s and hahogany are awesome no matter what shape the guitar is. Can't go wrong.

I picked up one of the Gibson LP Specials with P-90's when they put 'em out a couple of years ago and not only do I really dig that guitar, but everyone who picks it up loves it too. It's not quite as 'solid' as an old one and it doesn't have the same kinda 'chunk' since it's a 3 or 4 piece body instead of a one piece...but it plays great and is nice amp; alive and has a real aggressive midrange snarl to it that says quot;rwak!quot;

I've played a couple of the imported PRS P-90 axes and even bought one but I ended up returning it. Nothing was wrong with it, I love the wide/fat neck shape and it felt more solid then the Gibson. The problem is that I'm a guitar snob and the PRS sounded 2-dimensional both acoustically amp; plugged in. New pickups would've helped but I didn't feel like messing with it since I have a bunch of other guitars.

I like the the 80's Jr's with a TOM a lot, a whole lot actually. Swap in a Duncan P-90 and upgrade the tuners and they kill. The one I owned was a 2 piece body fwiw.

The newer wraparound versions are really good but I am not big on the Stoptails unless they are real old.

I would prefer a doublecut special with 2 P90's. As Wattage suggested put a set of Duncan Antiquity P90's in it and it will Kill!

I have a jr and it's a killer guitar. I also really like the PRS soapbar SEs, though the ones I tried were the earlier singlecut models. Great guitar for the dollars.

INCREDIBLE guitars for the money. I can't believe they are selling for so cheap still, with all of the price increases that the rest of Gibson stuff has seen. I just got mine a few weeks ago and the quality is easily on par with any Les Paul Standard I've picked up in the past couple years. The 1960 Slim Taper neck is really nice too. They also aren't brutally heavy either. They are perfect for someone like me who thinks that SGs are too flimsy and regular Les Pauls are too cumbersome and tubby sounding. The only issue I have with my Les Paul Jr. is that the compensated wraparound bridge doesn't give perfect intonation. It's very close, but not quite dead on. I have an adjustable wraparound bridge on the way to fix that problem.

The Jr. does seem very cool. Since it only has one pup, is it lacking tonewise? I know it gets an amazing dirty sound, but what are the cleans like? Do you find just having one pup limiting?

I haven't played any of the Gibson LP jr.s, but I played Theodie's PRS Soapbar SE singlecut, and I fell in love with it instantly. I now own a PRS Soapbar SE II (singlecut). Great guitar for the money. Much better workmanship and finish than my SG Special that cost at least 1.5x as much.
