Got my DS-1 back from Dr. Spina the other day. It's pretty sweet as far as I can tell. The first thing I noticed was the shiney new complimentary knobs. I had been turning posts to adjust my sound for like 7 months so...i feel like a rock star again. The second thing i noticed was that when I plugged it in, it worked...and then it sounded good.
It's a lot bigger even with the volume down low, and the gain knob is a lot crazier. With my amp around 2 I find myself turning the gain to like 3:00, whereas on the stock DS-1 i'd have it cranked and want more. With the amp around 6 how I like it, I don't want the gain on the improved DS-1 past noon...much more than that and it's all sludge. Reguardless, it's sludge i can use in a musical way if i want something besides the raunchiness this pedal adds. I can use it for death, grind and doom music if i want to.
The tone knob is great too, anything from some bassy sludge or really trebly prickles. Mine was set 3:00 before i came in to write this review, and it was still full with low/mid frequencies, very close to a cranked and overdrive-boosted Marshall in effect and tone...inspired a riff or two. The range of bassy and trebly sounds i can get from this pedal in conjunction with my amp get me pretty much everywhere I need to be...I just wish my Bassman had a MIDs knob I could dime.
All in all I'd say it's worth my money, wish i hadn't procrastinated so long in getting it. Thanks John.

Sounds good, would you say its quot;Spin-O-Mitequot;?

Do you use this pedal solely in conjunction with your Bassman or have you tried it with other amps? I've got a Spina as well but have only tried it with my Fender Super.

I've been called alot of things in my life,but never quot;Dr. Spinaquot; LOL ....Glad you like your DS1....As I've said,the DS1 becomes a fuzz pedal at high drive settings..I run the drive setting on my own around noon to 1 o'clock max and keep the tone and volume at or around 11 ish....It's a pretty cool pedal for a $40 pedal also..
YJM: Yes you do.
Kjrocks: No I would not call it quot;Spin-o-mitequot;
KGMeisser: The Bassman is all I've got, if anybody wants to send me their amps I'd love to run some tests tho
