what are the benefits of wrapping your strings around the tailpiece, like Zakk Wylde and many other les paul players do?

I just got a Modded SD-1 from CaptainCrunch and love it.I dont know whats been done to it but all I can say is it is 100% better than my stock Sd-1 that I had always planned on getting modded.I use it with the amp distortion for extra scream and smoothness. Its so much clearer ,quieter and doesnt suck out the bottom end.So add this to the previous Spina testimonials.
