my ad50vt is coming in the mail tomorrow. this is only my second amp so im not really good at getting good tones from something that has more than 4 knobs. could any vox owners or anyone that has played them post some settings? i need a metallica like/ heavy metal tone, a van halen tone, a boston tone. i also need a good blues setting. any advice on tweaking with this amp would be great. thanks

Would a bad tube still read the proper bias?
Assuming the bias was set properly in the first place, of course.

Anyone Tryed EL84s In Their Valvetronix Yet
The article below after I re-read it again,I guess states that the Valvetronix amp might have benefited from the use of EL84s...I mis-interpreted the info...

Replacing Ibanez 5 way switch with the Fender 5 way switch
Hi there!

30 watt class A
I picked up a partially assembled 30 watt (4 EL84) class a amp loosely based on the tube rectified circuit of a DC30. The amp has hammond transformers (which I guess are okay - I'm sure there are better). I had to finish up soldering some of the components and some of the tubes. I'm not sure exactly what I was doing - I just followed the directions I was given. When I first powered the amp up I was pretty much scared to death but it all worked just fine. The amp is very chimey with single coils but I like it best with HB's - the controls are volume, treb, bass and presence - the EQ controls are very interactive - crank them both up and the amp really crunches, the presence really doesn't seem to do all that much. There's a tube effects loop but I haven't tried it out, there's no mix control so I'm not sure how it will turn out. I put together a cabinet with spare Pine and plywood - the tolex was left over from a cabinet recover I did a few years back, I didn't have enough to go all the way around so I had to do some patching. I used a reverend alltone 12quot; speaker I've had sitting around for a couple of years - I'm very surprised at how it sounds. I replaced the rectifier tube and the EF86 tubes with some Mullards I had from another project. All told I've got about $200 into the amp. I still have some finishing to do - which I'll probably never get to!
