Just wondering what the tonal characteristics of Koa used in a guitar body or neck is like!
Also, is Koa a heavy wood?
Thanks,

EDIT: This thread was orginally about Walnut, but i thougth quot;hey, i'll just be the worlds first thread recycler!quot;
I've always heard of it being used in basses, or as a top. It looks great (check out the walnut hardtail on the Dean site), but I haven't played a guitar with any walnut in it.
According to Warmoth.com:
quot;Walnut is a heavy weight wood, but not quite as heavy as hard maple. It has a similar sound to hard maple but it tends not to be as bright.quot;
Thanks man, but i've already looked on Warmoth's website . I were just looking for some personal opinions on the wood .
*bump*
Hmm never left much an impression here, tried a few Strats, and one odd special guitar in walnut.

So, what did you find out? Did the axes sound good? Were they heavy?Heavy and er well dull, not much to speak of.
But an acoustic I tried on the other hand, now that was something
Frined of mine owns the Rickenbacker Lemmy Signature Bass,which is walnut as far as i know, and as rid says walnut sounds good but it has no real characteristic it's just a bit dull.
Yeah, thanks alot guys! I've gotten the answers i needed about Walnut! Now, i would like som Koa opinions!
I hope i ain't askin too much, or what?
Koa is very nice, good open sounds, plus on the warm side and juicy.
And quite balanced as well.
Hmm... im thinking about getting myself a Carvin now you see... just considering .
Im wondering what this would sound like:
-5 piece neck trough of maple and walnut
-Koa body sides with maple top
-Ebony or maple fingerboard
-Tung oil finish
-Seymour duncan Alnico 2 Pro single coils and CC humbucker
I like a really quot;roaringquot; and harmonically rich guitar. Responsive, lively tone with tons of harmonics are a must for me. Also, the guitar must not be quot;tinnyquot; sounding, just brigth, punchy and clear .
I'm considering using some money just to get a really good guitar .... then i don't have to worry about getting a new guitar in a few years.... if i'm lucky
Anyway, im proably just talkin piss now, i ahvent slept for 24 hours, hehehe
Cheers!
