hi folks -- since phat cats are single coils that replace buckers, do i need to change the 500k pots to 250s? Ok, not quot;needquot; to change them, but should I?
my bridge Phat Cat sounds fine with a 500k pot, but it is in a les paul which makes it sound thicker and warmer....what guitar are your putting it in? i think 500k may work out fine either way
i'm thinking about them for my guild bluesbird (older model, NOT chambered like the new ones) - the guild is a lot like the LP, but somewhat thinner. More like an LP Studio.
I have a pair of them in my Epi Sheraton II with 500K pots and they sound great.
I have 500k pots with my Phat Cats as well.
flank - some very nice clips btw.... which ones use the phat cat?
i just got the Phat Cat last week, none of those clips use it
Never tried them but if the Phat Cats are supposed to be P90's that have the dimensions of a Humbucker and since both HB's and p90's have traditionally used 500k pots (even tough the P90 and subsequently the PC are singles and singles use 250K pots). Just seems to make sense and I always assumed they were intended for such pots.
I had phat cats on my PRS custom 22, and didn't care for the tone until someone on this forum recommend I change the tone to a 250k pot, and it was great.
THE ANSWER....
(drum rooooolllllllll.............................)
...let your ears be the judge. If they sound fine as is, leave it alone.
