I have a strat set of custom wound APSs.
the tone on the neck doesn't seem to get as bright as my other APSs. I've gone back in twice to check my solder joints, the grounds and wiring, etc. Still the same problem. The mid and bridge pickup seem fine. (I have stock wiring, with tone jumped on the bridge/ mid.) At this point, I'm considering replacing the neck tone pot. I could also check the resistance of the pickup.
I'm just wondering if someone else might have run across something similar, and be able to shed some light on the problem.
thanks kindly
Curly, is there any chance your wiring is combining two tone controls? Two 250K tone controls in parallel behave like a 112K control and will remove highs.

Curly, what is the output?
Lew,
since the mid tone doesn't have an affect when it's in the neck position, I'd have to say no.
the neck tone doesn't have as wide a sweep, tone wise, as the bridge, which is why I considered replacing the pot

Curly,
This is no help with your problem at all but...what is Custom about them???

MJ wound them for me. She asked me what my favorite set was, and I said APSs. So these are probably similar to an Antiquity set, but like I said, I haven't put a meter on 'em. I just trust MJ.
What is the difference between the set MJ wound for you, verse a stock set?
Did she wind them hotter?
