Hi,

I just bought an Ibanez SZ520 guitar (killer guitar for the price, but that's another thread), which comes with quot;Duncan/Ibanezquot; pickups. These are OK but I want to replace them with a C5/59 combo. I'm hoping to save a few bucks and install the new pups myself. My question is, should I assume the wires on the quot;Duncan designedquot; Ibanez pickups and the quot;REALquot; Duncans are the same?

For example, should I solder the 59's red wire where the stock pickup's red wire was soldered before?

Your help is greatly appreciated!

No, you shouldn't assume that. I mean it would make sense that the color codes would be the same. But Ya never know.

So you should just follow the instructions that come with the pickups you buy. They're very easy to follow.

this is the way duncans are wired though (so you can check and see if its the same on your duncan/ibnz)

Red and White wire are Soldered together and Taped off. (for normal series operation)
Green and Bare (metal)= Ground (I.e. soldered together and To the back of the volume or tone pot, or some other ground spot)
Black = Hot. And is Soldered to Either the Switch, Or the first lug on a volume pot.

hope this helps

if you are selling the pups from that guitar let me know i will buy the bridge one

I was just playin duncan/ibanez pikups in a beutiful ibanez yesterday, they were ok, very similar to my corts motherbuckers sound for some reason
They dont compare to real duncan pickups though. Good job replacing them, i think the guitar i was playing was the same as yours... flame top, and i think it only comes in trans black? good luck anyways.

Thanks for the replies.

Lester: I plan on keeping the stock PU's for a project guitar, but if I change my mind I'll let you know.

Pecan: Sounds like you are referring to the SZ720, which is very similar to the 520 I got. Mine's a quot;Blueberry Transparentquot; finish which is actually more like a dark black cherry finish. And no, they do not compare to real Duncans, although they are not bad for stock pickups.

i have a sz320 (that i am selling) and was surprised at the 3 way switch. I had never seen a switch with 12 lugs on it.
