I've been considering investing in one of these to put before my digital multitrack recorder to improve the sound quality a bit:

Active electronics, passive pickups, and tone sucking...
Well my Charvel has an active midboost in it. It can add up to 6db of boost. It's a very cool device and I quite like it... The Jackson pickup it came with was very smooth, then I replaced it with a FullShred and it was just... amazing! But now I put a Miracle Man (bareknuckle) in it and I noticed a loss in harmonics (while there should be more) and a tone I wasn't expecting. Less tightness, less bass than what I hoped for. Could the active electronics be the fault? Would it definitely sound better if I wired it more simply, volume/volume/tone with all 500K pots?

another van halen thread
o.k., so i have been surfing some different sites about the guitar evh used during the dlr years. i have read alot about how the guitar was just put together and others that say it was just a stock kramer that was heavily modded.

savage and powerball what is the difference?
I really want to hear a definitive answer with this from someone who has played them both. I've heard the powerball plenty of times. I'm just curious as to how the savage compares with it. How are they different and how are they simliar in terms of sound.

Wolfgang or Axis...
I have really been getting into the EBMM Axis guitars lately; since buying my OLP MM1. I keep looking at the Peavey Wolfgangs too. I know that EVH helped to design both models. My question is which one do you like better and why? Personally, I like the Axis. It seems to fit me better with its overall look and feel. To me, the Wolfgang just looks kind of weird.

Small Tube Combo's
In a couple months when I have some money I'm going to look into buying a small tube combo (lt;20 watts) for at home playing and maybe the occasional jam with friends. The Classic 30 that I'm selling now was just too damn loud other than that I loved it. I don't play high gain stuff, just blues and jazz. What would you reccomend for lt;20 watts and lt;$500?
