i am about to change the preamp tubes on both my Marshall TSL601 COMBO and my Boogie dc5....The TSL has 4 12AX7 tubes V1,V2,V3,V4 and the DC-5 has six of them(V1,V2,V3,V4,V5,V6). I think i'll buy some JJ and some EH so i can mix them up and see how they sound that way. What i would like to know is do i need to buy some balanced 12AX7 for the phase inverter position(???) and which is the position for the phase inverter tube for each of the amps i mentioned earlier?

low output
correct me if im wrong,
but it seems to me that the most common neck pups (for hard rock and metal anyway) are the 59 and the jazz which are both lower output pickups. why is this so? and if so can lower output pickups in the bridge do good hard rock and metal (like the 59 or the alnico pro II)?

The Damndest Thing...
So a couple weeks ago I stopped into the local Guitar Center to pick up a Bad Monkey and see what was under the glass case; occasionally some good used deals will crop up. Sure enough, an almost mint looking Ibanez Tube Screamer Reissue was labeled for sixty bucks. Not exactly the steal of the century, but a decent price.

Which logo...
Alright guys, I'm working up a design for a headstock logo for my strat. I've got three candidates, and I have a decent idea which I like but I wanted to see what some other people thought for sh*ts and giggles. So, pick one already .

My custom custom
Hi,

Idea: alnico ii pro (N) JB (B)
All,
Let me preface by saying that I don't know if my guitar is considered bright or not (ESP LTD EC100QM: maple top with mahogany-wanna-be body, rosewood fingerboard, dual humbucker, no wammy bar). However, I was researching pickups and looking at their EQ on the tone chart. I decided that I didn't want something super bright (9), or something with weak mids (3), so that narrowed it down to an Alnico II Pro in the neck and a JB in the bridge, which if you take the EQ for both and average the values (as if playing from both) you get 6/5/8 which looks nice. Looks like the alnico ii would be providing the bass while the JB the mids, and both are EQ-8 for treble. Please tell me what you guys think, etc. All feedback highly appreciated. In terms of styles, I play a bunch, but I have a very nice multieffects board and amp to run it through, so I doubt that making it sound like what I want it to be, if I'm trying to sound like someone else, will be an issue (although I do not like copying other people directly).

What pots have you used for Lil Hums in your strat?
Wondering what pots you have used in your single coil sized humbuckers? How did it fit and which PU are you talking about?

Wanted: Classic 50, Laney LC50, and Traynor YCV50 Blue Clips
It's time again to resume hunting for that elusive perfect tone. I've got the guitar side pretty much set, so now I have to work on the guitar side. Since I can't go running to a guitar store every day, it would be great if anyone could post clips of a Peavey Classic 50, Laney LC50, or Traynor YCV50.

Lookin' fer EMG singles... more
I'm looking for a couple used EMG SA(FT/SV/SAV/89) basically any alnico EMG single coil. I'm trying to sneak in a grunge-o-caster while pretending I'm not spending any money, so if you've got something kinda beat up that you're looking to get rid of, I'm your man.
