PATB-2 vs. EMG 81 help
I recently was advised here to switch out my 81 for an 85, as I wanted a fuller sound. I was all set to buy an 85, but after thinking about it longer i've decided I want to try passive pickups again. The thing is, I don't really want to lose the high output because I play death metal and love the high gain. I've been looking at the PATB-2 as an option. I just want to know if anyone can compare it to an 81? I'm looking for a fuller sound than the 81. My guitar is a Jackson KE3 Kelly with an alder body. It has a floyd rose and the PATB-2 is made for floyd equipped guitars, so I'm thinking this might be the pickup i'm looking for. I know it has similar qualities as the 81 being a high output, ceramic magnet humbucker. But i'm sure the 81 has to have the most treble out of any pickup.

mesa studio preamps whats the deal
I am thinking about getting a rack preamp and power amp instead of another head or combo. I was looking at a 50 caliber but am not sure. I play everything from country and blues type stuff with a tele to classic rock and metal with whatever i can get my hands on at the time. I really like the corrosion of conformity sound and I know they use dual recto's and 50 cal's. I want something with a good amount of gain but i am not a fan of the recto's. the only mesa's I have owned wre a subway rocket and a triple recto. So what does everyone think of the studio preamp. not sure what kind of power amp I would use with it though.

LEWGUITAR Wrong Place for PUPs
Ran into a bad experience with a ebay seller. This guy through a hissy fit because I sent polite inquiry as to a delivery date of my Jerry Donahue pickups. I only wanted to know so that I could be there to pick it up...I live in a small town where the post office closes at 3:45 and the UPS comes at 3:00. I usually get home at 4:00. I have nicknamed him quot; The Pickup Naziquot;. Never did send my PUPs and sent my money back with a vengence.

Jazz bridge?
I don't recall ever seeing anyone talk about the Jazz bridge version.
I was just curious if anyone has ever tried one, and what they thought?

Basswood for a Strat body?
Hey guys, what do you think of basswood as a possible body wood for a Strat project? I need something that has a warmer tone without the weight of mahogany, and I'm thinking this could be a good choice. I swore I'd never own another basswood body due to the softness of the wood, but my basswood Wolfgang still has one of the best unplugged tones I've ever heard. I'm matching it with a Strat neck that is a little bit bright...not ridiculously bright, but I think Alder is just a little bright for my tastes. I want it to sound like a Strat, but at the same time I like to have my own sound and not try to reproduce the typical Strat sound that everyone chases...maybe that makes no sense to anyone other than me, but I'm thinking basswood might be the best choice to tame a bit of the high end and produce a nice well-rounded tone. The neck I'm using is a Warmoth neck, goncalo with an ebony fretboard, double truss rod, and stainless frets. Like I said, I found it to be just a tad too bright. The tone is close to what I'm looking for, and I think a warmer body wood will put the tone right where I want it. I know some of the older MIJ Strats are made of Basswood, and those are generally regarded as being very good Strats. Assuming we're talking about high quality basswood, what do you guys think? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Anyone know of any places to buy stuff like mesa, bogner, ect online?
I'm wanting to look at some prices and stuff ect. of new and possibly used amps in this kind of field. Mesa, bogner, engal, orange, ect. I know I probably wont find much on mesa (heck, even thier web site doesn't offer much) but I'd like to find a few resourses to check things like what tube are used, watts, ohms, ect. Pretty much anything.
