Hello,
Any recommendations for software used in charting composite moving
averages? Most of the software available involves tracking stock
values, and is too much for my needs . My interest is in forecasting
sales for a small business.
Any downloads available that can run on the MICROSFT WORKS SPREADSHEET
application?
Are there downloads available that can run independent of MS
spreadsheets?

There are at least three ways using Excel: (1) create a chart, choose Add
Trendline, and select the Moving Average type, (2) use the Moving Average
tool of Excel's Analysis ToolPak, (3) use the AVERAGE worksheet function and
then create a Line chart.

The approximative spline extrapolation option of Rt-Plot might help you.

Why don't you calculate the moving average - with the lags depending on
your choice and not on the limited choices of the program - and chart it
with any decent spreadsheet, such as OpenOffice ?

Please read my post.
I was recomending approximative spline, which is not a moving average.

Spline regression is of course a possible solution. I dont know how many
people have a working knowledge of this type of stats work.

There is a piece of Freeware called FreeFore available from
www.autobox.com/freef.exe
which will optimize the moving average equation ...i.e. it will find
out how many
periods you should use and what the optimal weights are for each of
thise periods ...
This is also called BOX-JENKINS .

Well, Excel can do it, and you can maybe get a price break as an
upgrade from Works?
